Default A very sad day.

Today I called Mark Lane, you best know him as Nitrain or Quesay, or Wascal. Well, I didn't get him, I got his mother. Mark lived in OK with her after moving back home from the Houston area.

His mother informed me that Mark passed away on June 20th due to a heart attack.

He will be missed by a great many people.....

/salute Nitrain, rest in peace.

Mark aka Nitrain was a great guy. I met him when I first joined Vallis Scortor when I was in my mid 20s. My wife and I met him for drinks one time and I spoke with him over the phone many times. He would always be there for you if you had a problem. He was known to get burnt out from time to time and disappear for a month or so. When I heard the news today, I was shocked and saddened. I will miss him very much.

Man, this is like getting hit with a ton of bricks. Until today I never realized how much the friends you make in game really mean to you... yet another lesson you taught me, old friend...

The first time I met Nitrain was when he and Sorack were talking about absorbing Emerald Circle into Vallis Scortor. It was the night I got my Sebilis key, early on in Kunark... I was a barely 51st level druid and he was already 54 and complaining about the hell level... Nitrain was rather fond of complaining, but not in a mean or hurtful way... he would jokingly try to make you feel like everything was a tremendous hassle for him, yet he'd drop anything he was doing to help any of his guildmates or friends... And I mean, he REALLY would spend nights running around and doing nothing but favors for people... too much, I told him a dozen times... play the game for you, I said... Of course he missed me saying that in the constant /tell spam he got... Nitrain was the only char I ever had to log in and immediately put up an AFK message to avoid telling 10 people I wasn't him...

The time I spent in Vallis Scortor were some of the best in EQ and a ton of that was thanks to Nitrain. The guy knew everyone - and called pretty much all of them sluts I can't count the nights we spent in Sebilis, Chardok, Howling Stones, God forbid Karnors - Nitrain, Sorack, Festus (before he went all loony), Larlaana, Artallen, Sharookan, Escaja... back in the days when the dungeons were dungeons, and when you wiped deep it was really a hassle...

And then there was the time we spent a week getting our complete set of HS keys, which I kept on a corpse at the zone... and prompty after looting them one night I camped out to clear aggro at the zone.... oops... he ripped into me for 20 minutes in groupchat with everyone else all the while sending me tells about how funny he thought it was...

... you see, we both had a penchant for drinking a little (too much) when we played, although I preferred beer over his whisky.... how many weekend afternoons would Nitrain log on and say, "I will never drink again"?

When we started moving on towards raiding, Nitrain made sure the guild kept our heads level and payed attention, while at the same time making sure people were still having fun. While clearing Fear one time another guild moved in on us (was it Looking Glass?) before we got a shot at CT (v1.0). After arguing and petitioning, he got us our shot first... and then made sure we had 40 friends just to make sure we won I think that was the night Arty got the Shissar Wraith? Maybe Lyrik? Man so many times he fought the battle for his guildmates to prosper...

When we switched servers and started raiding Velious, he wasn't as interested in it... hours of HoT clearing bored him and I don't blame him... There were plenty of times that Nitrain, Sorack and I argued about what the guild should be doing, and when... we didn't always agree - heck we rarely agreed - but I always had to respect his opinion, and always felt like I could kick back and joke around with him afterwards. He was seen as a father figure in the guild, and took that role to heart... he couldn't see why we wanted to raise the level limits for entry: "if I meet a hot chick at the bar and get her to play, she's joining my guild and I don't care what you say!"

When I left Vallis, he was still there for me... how many times did he work with me to get through trials? And the guy couldn't ever just say hi...

Nitrain tells you, "slut"

Yeah, I rambled but so what... anyone that was in Vallis with me has seen longer posts. And I know all you guys that were in QSA have about a billion MORE stories than I do.... but it's just so hard to believe... Sorack and I had always said "ya know, I'd love to go out and have a beer with the guy", but there's always time... until there isn't any more...

Dang man, I gonna miss you. Was looking forward to LDoN, hoping the old crowd would get back together... now there will be a gaping hole in my group window...

I'll be sure to get nice and drunk in your memory, man. And the next morning I'll log in and say, "I will never drink again".

Farewell Mark/Nitrain, and God Bless.

My condolences. Even though I had a short stay in VS, I was still victimized by Nitrain's kindness and humor.

Mark aka Nitrain was my best friend in this silly game we all play and he had to be the most generous and self sacrificing person I have ever met, in EQ and out. He would always drop what ever he was doing to give someone a rez or help them out on a quest and he never asked for anything in return. We had so many good times and adventures from back in the old Quake 2 clan QSA to EQ to him forming Vallis.

Mark we will miss you.

Jesus this is a shock and a half

Back when I was Corpseus Nitrain took me under his wing when I joined Vallis, he was an outstanding guy and a true friend to everyone who knew him.

God, this is just...wow...I think for the first time ever I'm speechless.
