Default CD burning question.. Newb question at that.

I have never bothered to learn anything about CD burning due to being on a histty dial-up but I have run accross a situation where I will be down-loading MP3's and I want to convert that mp3 to CDA (I think that is what CD formats are) so I can listen to the shows I like in my truck or what ever. What are some low cost to FREE programs for doing mp3 to CDA. My wifes comp has a burner but the program, Dell Music Match, only does MP3 to mp3 VBR or something. any help would be great guys.

Most burning software from the past few years will take an mp3 and burn it directly. Never used Dell's, but my roommate uses it and burns mp3s. If he can do it, it must take mp3s directly. He's a moron.

There are lots of programs out there, I use burn4free. ( download.burn4free.com ) I believe you'll need a .mp3 to .wav converter ( I use shorten instead of mp3 ) which should be easy to find. The burn program does the CDA conversion for you ( it might convert mp3 to CDA, I have never tried, I know it does wav to CDA ).

Fil

edit: just went and looked, it does do mp3 to cda, but the current version also includes Navhelper, which seems to be some type of ad program to help offset costs, so this might not be something you want.

If you are going to steal songs / software, I suggest Nero free edition for your CD burning needs.

I've always been happy with Nero.

I don't think he needs to buy new software though. What he's got should work fine. No point wasting money on more.

Roxio CD creator has a ton of features and utilities, but is on the expensive side. I noirmally use nero to create simple data and music disks, it's easy to use and has never given me any trouble
