Spent my day at the Roger Clemens trial. I'm a wee bit skeptical about all of em, to be honest.

It's a great accomplishment no doubt, but it's sort of tainted at least for the near future because of him being a puss and not at least showing up at the All-Star game to at least tip his cap and get an applause.
He claimed exhaustion from trying to persue 3000 hits as to why he didn't go. Seriously Jeter? You had been out for weeks because of a minor injury (not saying he shouldn't have been on the DL, he should have been). You'd been back for less than a week to finish your pursuit of 3000. You HAD time off. Exhaustion is one lame-o excuse all things considered in this circumstance. There were 5 people that were elected/voted to the All Star team that didn't show up. Two just had knee surgery (including Alex Rodriguez), so for them not to attend is more or less acceptable to reduce swelling and what not from flying. Four of the Five that didn't bother showing up were members of the Yankees. Mariano Rivera has an issue with his triceps currently. To that end though, Shane Victorino showed up because he felt obligated to because the fans voted him in. He showed up with a torn ligament in his thumb simply to tip his cap to the fans that voted him in. Jeter should have done so as well. He didn't deserve to be an All-Star this year, but the fans voted him in because they love him. The decent thing to do would have been to make an appearance. |

Taleren, I agree that he didn't have a deserving of an all star season, this year of last for that matter. However, you took the first thing you read as fact, it is not.
The Real Derek Jeter reason for missing the AL game Couple of Quick quotes. Quote:

Stand up classy guy? Sure most of the time, but the two things you quoted have what I would consider lies in them.
First, about the physical and emotional exhaustion... It had been reported for days prior to Tuesday this was the reason he wasn't going to be there. In fact, that that was the reason claimed for him not to be there was acknowledged by Bud Selig (you know, only the commissioner for MLB). Jeter states after the fact it was because of his leg, but that quote was almost a week after it had been reported by people in the league, people with his team, players on his team, etc., that he was missing the game due to exhaustion. To the second point... There is NO WAY IN HELL that he didn't know about the uproar until Tuesday. I'll say that again, there's NO WAY IN HELL he didn't know it was a big deal until Tuesday. He lives in the media capital of the world. The commissioner of MLB commented on it Monday that he'd spoken to Jeter about it, and that he accepted Jeter's exhaustion (just because Selig accepted it doesn't mean the fans have to however). So... if Selig spoke to Jeter about it on Monday, Jeter is definitely lying if he said he hadn't heard a word about it until Tuesday. Jeter is a class act most of the time. He wasn't here. This won't stick with him indefinitely, but currently it's still in the public's eye. The things that WILL stick with him is if he's going to try to lie his way out of it. People won't be so quick to forget lying. |

Find me the quote where Jeter said he's too exhausted to play. Unless Bud Selig can produce a quote, then he is talking out of his bum.
Second part, it's your opinion. Truly, there is no way to prove or disprove it. History has shown, he has been a man of his word. If he said he didn't hear about it, maybe he didn't read the sports page. He might have other things going on that kept him preoccupied. It's all speculation. Well, the first part isn't, it was false reporting. ![]() |
