Default Doom 3 - Holy Jeebus

That is perhaps the best £35 I've spent in at least a year (besides that trip to Amsterdam, but that's another story).
It hands-down beats the original Half Life introduction, to make perhaps one of the most emersive and convincing first half hours ever in a game.
And when it all went tits-up.. fuck me was it good.

And scary? HELL YEAH!!! I'm jumping out of my seat like a biatch...who jumps out of their seat a lot.

Gotta be a 9.2/10 for Doom3 so far.

can't beat id in the arena of games, they decided to take 4 years of pure hell to get this game out, they just rose the bar about 25 miles

not to mention, this is the same company that puts on quakecon for free every year just for their gamers

My wife has been just wetting her self waiting on this game.. Sounds like a winner.

Its not a bad game. Its a pity that all the good graphics are wasted due to the terrible lighting. Also the bait/ambush tactic that every monster in the game uses does get old after awhile.

Terrible lighting?
Gah, probably the best I've ever seen.

its the best out of any game created as to date(might be better then games in the near future such as HL2, or hell maybe even Unreal3 but that is a long shot), infact that is whats so stunning about the game detail is the lighting and shadowing carmack used, how it could ever be seen as "shitty" is beyond me

plus the fact the game looks damn good at the lowest settings possible and still works on a mx440, which even UT can barely do is a huge plus for the game

bait/ambush is i'm guessing the effect they use when a person goes the extra step to obtain more ammo/health and it sparks a series of monster spawnings that own your face off, never got old with me and i've played doom1, perfect game in my eyes other then a very shitty multi player mode (at least the game is increadibly easy to mod, should introduce some awsome mods - hehe counter strike:doom3)

A friend of mine told me the game's overall atmosphere is more convincing than System Shock 2. I'm generally not a fan of first person shooters but after hearing that I may have to try it out...

Before I bought it, I read a particular review that rated it at 90%, saying it was breath-taking graphics, sound, etc, etc, extremely immersive and convincing, but that it lacked originality and blasting away at zombies for 20 hours could get slightly boring.
The interviewer's advice was to play an hour at a time, at night, on a medium difficulty setting.

He was spot on. An hour every night is enough to keep the game exciting and fresh, and my pants brown.
Those creepy guys that crawl out of air vents and throw fireballs...they get my heart racing every time.

Sounds like the reaction I still get from playing a Marine in Alien versus Predator 2. Maybe I'll check this one out sometime soon.
