The reason some of them are so miserably large is that they aren't resized. The JPG's are huge and the <img> tag has a size set on it that makes your browser download and resize the full size image.

Your front page is over 5.6 MB big. You might as well just force people to download. I download MP3's faster then I can view your front page. =p
