Wow, it doesn't seem like that long ago we were sending good wishes to you on this day. The years only pass more quickly, it seems. In any case, have the best of days, dear lady. =)

Thank you very much, all! Alas, I am working both jobs today, but hope to scrape up the energy to make some chicken and dumplings, green beans, and devil's food cake when I get home (or at least cajole Faervas into a trip to Luby's, barring that)
.Thor: The scary part of that revelation is, I do remember that day - someone commented on my age, and I made a reference to Douglas Adams' sublime number, and it was my forty-second birthday, *two* years ago . Tempus Fugit indeed...Thanks again for the well-wishes and though I don't contribute as much to the discourse around here as I used to or would like, our little virtual community has brought an amazing amount of sunshine to my life and I'm quite greatful to have gotten to know so many interesting and *good* folks here. Be well all and thank you for sharing both your opinions and a bit of yourselves here - I can't help but think that just the act of doing so, in the face of both the shame that is what is happening in this country, and the fragmentation of traditional social and support networks, *matters* somehow in a more substantial sense than might be apparent at first glance. Fondly, Deborah A. Dixon "Nydia Ywalmoriel" P.S. I do have a fairly recent picture of myself and a couple of the other usual suspects from this board for Anterak's RL thread if someone can point me to a place to host it. Mmmm cake
- I was just telling a friend on IM that that is the one thing I may be forced to make myself because if it's one thing I can't stand, it's plastic, poly-spaceagechemical foam cake. Incoming kitchen disaster, T-minus three hours ...Hey SC! /dodges and wags tail) Long time no see! It's been a wet spring here too and the cats are enjoying the suburban jungle although I will be moving up your way (to take a teaching job at Palo Alto College) next month myself (I'd love to meet you for dinner or such sometime if we can both manage to de-hermit ). It will be be nice to be back in something resembling civilization even if my student body won't be much different as they're all coming from the south side, which bears a more than passing resemblance to Laredo... Philip/Faervas and I are fine, he's home for the summer from his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago and occasionally managing to make less of a mess than he packs. He'll be around until late August at which point he goes back up north for another year of cursing at the weather (it's hell on wheelchairs, not to mention pushing through rain snow etc) and finishing his BFA, at which point he'll only be 2 or 3 years from gainful enployment .<3 Fildien , and as far as all my wishes coming true, this year has been better than most for a while, in that I landed a new job, a grant at my old job that I got to design a course for, as well as the opportunity (as part of the grant) to work on a really neat biostatistics project with a colleague of mine at the local 4-year college that should net us a couple of publications. I managed, after some hunting, to find some funky handicapped accessable housing in the old Cadillac building downtown for this fall, and even a bit of what might pass for romance in some quarters (not at the same time) . I'm still broke, hopelessly disorganized, and started with The Change (tm) (hot flashing and perimenopausal memory issues and mood swings, mainly) in earnest this year, but all in all I'd have to rate this one in the 'plus' category . Thanks again all for the well-wishes and someone remind my forgetful self to start a thread for Willgatus on Saturday - part of the guild pack of Cancers, he'll be 22 .Warm regards, Nydia |
