Ok my P4 3.2E is running excessively hot while under heavy loads like EQ2 or any other graphics intense game. By hot I mean pushing 57-58C, I'm worried b/c it's getting close to that 60C mark of bad for CPUs
![]() I replaced the OEM stock fan with an after market one that spins nearly 6k RPMs. I also put down some silver heatsink grease. My case is an authorized intel case for this CPU. Does anyone have any suggestions? While idle I run between 40-43C and that is with a small fan blowing directly against the case. This is a new CPU I upgraded from a 2.6C that rarely if ever hit 100F under load My gf has the exact same chip and the exact same problem. If anyone has a real suggestion short of buying a new board and CPU please share it. Someone mentioned an after market fan by Zalman has anyone heard of these? Anyway thanks for any info or help you can give.

That's really not that warm. I run my dual core overclocked by a good bit and it stays around 65 degrees when both cores are loaded (though, my case is really cramped and airflow is terrible). I can't remember ever having had a crash.
I'm using a Zalman fan. Something in the 7000 series. I think it gave me about 10 degrees off the stock Intel boxed CPU fan. I'd definitely recommend one of those. |

If your still concerned I recommend looking for, if you can still find em...
http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/s.../subzero4g.htm Here is a review on it... http://www.overclockercafe.com/Revie..._P4/index.html I got one a few years ago and it is performing very well. Even with my CPU overcloked I never seen temps get very high.

Actually OCZ is supposed to be coming out with a Vapor Phase cooling system in the next few months.
Normally these systems run a cool (pardon the pun) grand USD, but these guys are saying that they'll be able to offer the same type of cooling for about $50 more than a water cooling system. Upon testing, they were able to take an AMD FX57, Over clock it to just over 5GHz, put 100% load on it and kept the temp between -10 degrees Celcius and 0 degrees Celcius. |

Well as hot as it's been running I'm afraid to OC but if I can get it cooler well I will definitely be trying to tweak it some.
Thanks all for the suggestions, I'm glad to know that running close to 60C isn't that big of a deal everything I read suggested it's not a good idea. I will definitely be looking to buy one of the Zalman fans. My gf has a Thermaltake fan and it's not doing any better than the stock fan.

For a cheaper solution, you might want to look at a new case maybe?
I personally went for the Antec P180. It's a bit more costly but passes more air than a Troll on all you can eat burrito night! Comes with 3 X 120mm fans, with room for another 120mm fan and an 80mm fan. I have it blocked and haven't had to dust my computer desk since I brought my baby home. ![]() |

My case is currently an Intel approved "Thermally Advantaged Chasis" it still runs hot :\
I just ordered http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118119 so we'll see how this does. If this doesn't help then I might just buy that Antec P180 case, I like the positioning of the fans I'm sure it moves some air. I'm just REALLY REALLY lazy and have like no desire to disassemble and reassemble my computer lol. I just went through upgrades galore for my PC, my gf's PC, and the kid's PC ugh.

No it's a 478. I decided rather than spend a chunk on a new mboard and CPU I would just push the max on my current config and just upgrade in a couple of years.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any 3.4E chips out there only 3.2Es. But I'm happy and smoking with... P4 3.2E 800FSB up from 2.6C 300GB HDD and 80GB HDD up from just the 80GB 4GB (4x1024) dual channel PC3200 RAM up from 1GB not running in dual channel nVidia 6800GT 256MB up from a 5200FX total = less than $400 To switch architecture and have a similar setup would have been allot more and plus I upgraded my gf's PC to similar hardware so everything up above x2 plus some little stuff for the kid's PC. All told I spent for 3 PC upgrades what I would have spent for just myself one. But I suspect in a couple of years I'm going to have to move away from this and go to a new arch Oh and did I mention I'm lazy? I hate installing PC components I think it's because it's what I used to do and now I just hate it lol.P.S. thanks for the tip. I probably wouldn't have caught that.
