Does anyone live in Colorado? Some buddies at work want to climb Mt Sneffles this summer and I'm going too.

I have never had to deal with anything like a mountain as far as weather and climate and altitude....

Any advise or suggestions? I need to know what ever you think will make the trip more fun and less of a learning curve.

What type of climbing are planning to do? Caribiners, pitons and rope? Mountain trail and rock climbing?

No matter what type of climbing you do... take some survival supplies... warm clothing, freeze dried foods, etc. The weather can turn nasty even in the summer and getting caught on top of the mountain in bad weather can spell disaster.

Been there, done that, froze my butt off in a summer rainstorm on the mountain.

Gandaar said it perfectly. Might not be a bad idea to learn a bit about mountain hiking before you go....you would be surprised just how involved it can be and risky if you do not know anything.

Portable GPS a cell phone, camera ( the pictures of it look beatiful ) and extra batteries.

Okay guys I'm back from Colorado.... I went up two 14'ers and I have to say there is not much Oxygen up that far LOL! The first one was killer, after 13k I was walking for 2 minutes and resting for 3

We went up Handies and Sneffels. Mixed in a white water rafting trip, Went to the Maroon Belles (sp) in Aspen and did 2 other lower altitudes hikes (Black Canyon and Alpine trail I think it is called). Lots of stuff for 5 days

Once we get the pics done I will post a few.

I will say that it was a big learning experience. I will also say that the first 14er kicked my ass. It was one of the hardes cardio things I have ever done.

Sounds like you had a good time. Were all of the mountains one day trips or did you set up camps?

All one day trips. We 4-wheeled over multiple passes.... I remember one being called Engineer and Cinamin or something like that.... that was scary! I am not used to being that close to the edge of a mountain road. I may have felt better if I was driving.
