In a similiar boat as you Fil, I've been thinking about upgrading casually, probably gonna get something before Christmas when SW:ToR, Skyrim, etc. all come out.
I got an email from Dell yesterday that showed me this: http://www.dell.com/us/p/studio-xps-...tudio-xps-9100 The one XPS system for $1k didn't seem like a bad deal, though I don't really have a solid concept on how big of an upgrade I'm going for there. Currently running an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 2.67GHz processor, 4 GB of ram, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT. Is that a large enough leap? Do I really need to make a leap after all? |

Kelraz,
You could build a better system for cheaper. My previous system was a core2duo and a 8800GT (the 9800 GT is the same card rebranded). I noticed a considerable difference going with an i5 2500k, 16GB of ram (ram is DIRT cheap right now) and a GeForce 470 (get a 580 if you can). There would be a leap. As to "need"... for TOR, I doubt it. It's not super graphically intensive. I would say without everything turned way up, your current rig would handle it. As to Skyrim, I'm not so sure. I prefer to be able to play games with the graphics turned at least to high... to be able to see the game for what the creators intended of it. But if you're ok with playing stuff at low - medium settings, your system will still perform. |
