KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Afghan police have arrested 10 Taliban militants involved in an acid attack this month against 15 girls and teachers walking to school in southern Afghanistan, a provincial governor said Tuesday.

Pretty sad that these guys are so afraid of women learning, that they resort to these sort of attacks.
The best part of the story was this quote:


One of the victims, a teacher named Nuskaal who was burned through her burqa, called Tuesday for a harsh punishment for the attackers.
"If these people are found guilty, the government should throw the same acid on these criminals. After that they should be hanged," said Nuskaal, who like many Afghans goes by one name.

If they are going to use the Sharia (or however they say it) system of law, these men may be freed and the teachers hanged.

But if they are going to use any system of justice even remotely estranged from Islamic law, then yes, these men should be punished to the fullest extent possible. It is beyond belief that a human in a civilized (or close to it) country would be willing to disfigure a child for the "crime" of wanting to learn.

My take is that while islam is a good religion if adhered to properly, there are too many people nowadays "Interpeting" it to what they think it should be or to suit their purposes.
Also it seems like a lot of the men in these countries want their women barefoot and pregnant, which was fine in the 14-15th centuries, but is kinda out of date in this day and age.
(Come to think of it, there are a lot of guys i know who think that way in the US, except in most cases not to these extremes)
