Haha really? How can they justify the prices going up again after they just did a server merge which should lower some costs for them.

Probably since they lost so many subscribers to other online games that they have to raise the rates just to show some gains nowadays. At least that's my take on it......

Yeah.. because everyone knows when you spend all your free time playing a video game.. (probably at least 60 hours in any given month), it's not worth the nickel or so an hour to keep it going. Here's a clue. Work your ass off for a kiss from a girl. You'll be happier for it. Trust me. Either that, or maybe quit whining on a messageboard or something.

I should make you people pay me for these wonderful posts.

Hey Dante,

Who the fuck are you to give life advice to anyone.. you who feels so flaccid in reality that you need to invent some lame ass ezboard persona as some "master flamer" to impress a gaggle of retards on the board you created in some lame attempt to re-live your 3rd grade trauma, which obviously was significantly scarring

Seriously.. fucking die. You can justify your use of our oxygen any longer

He's pretty much been off his rocker like that since I split that somewhat racist post of his with "Juan". No clue why that set him off, but I think it has to do with one too many tackle to the head back in high school football.

Is less then a penny a day really that expensive for entertainment as cheap as EverQuest? If you can't afford an extra $2 a month, maybe you shouldn't be playing EverQuest at all.

Palimax Sceleris
05-15-2005, 05:23 PM
More like $.50 a day, but, ok.

I'll still play, but when people start paying this much, what's to keep other mmo's from raising their rates? We could be paying 20$ a month or more in the next few years if the developers think they can get away with it...

ehh well....with station pass and advanced features I am paying $23.99 to play EQ2 and EQ1. it's worth it to me though.

Even just inflation from 1999 to 2005 is something like 15-20%. People typically expect raises and bonuses to out pace inflation. Prices go up. It's just one of those things.

Prices go up, raises, bonuses...inflation.

Yeah, they probably paid for all of that out of the constantly expanding customer base. But now...

Hey, maybe we'll see an increase in CS. I know, I crack myself up too.

Back in the day, when I used to hit the gym regularly, it was always a good sign that the place was going under when they started selling lifetime memberships.

One for the road? http://www.sleepisfortheweak.com/lanparty/images/smiles/icon_anal.gif

Possible that the reason SOE is condoning selling items and toons now is that the competition has hit them alot worse than most realize and that they need it to keep their profits up? Just a thought....

Sanchek
05-16-2005, 05:54 PM
Yeah, they probably paid for all of that out of the constantly expanding customer base.
With something the size of EQ, their fixed cost in proportion to a single user is pretty small, but their incremental cost per user stays the same. Whatever they're making per user, their cost (server space, bandwidth, CS personnel, accounting, etc) per user still remains.

Actually, the competition hasn't hurt them as much as a lot of people think. It appears they lost only 90,000 accounts out of 550,000 between September 2004 and March 2005.

While that is a significant loss, it's still under 20%.

Pretty sure they're reporting a lot of all access passes in that EQ1 number.

Before World of Warcraft appeared, the competition was pretty meager. I'd say this is to be expected though, Anarchy Online started charging 12.95 when it first came out, and then Sony followed suit shortly thereafter.

When people continue to pay 14.99$ a month, the competition will raise their prices as well.

Personally 14.99$ a month isn't much but the price of a few Starbucks coffees to me, but for people with multiple accounts I can understand why they would be upset.

Maybe its time to prioritize? Let go of the 500 channel Satellite tv, and be able to afford all your accounts??

I shouldn't have sold my CoH account. It was a nice fun break.

I spend about $40 on high speed internet.
I spend about $40 on Sony subscriptions (one all access, one EQ)
I spend about $10 on premium newsgroup access.

I'll hardly notice the price hike.

Moglor
05-17-2005, 11:46 PM
the price hike really isnt that big of a deal.. its just when you think about it as.. IM paying a company 30 bucks a month to play a game.. kinda makes ya feel a little ripped off.. at 20 bucks a month i could convince myself that i was saving on the phonesex i would of done but with eq i can get it so much easier on there
