As captivating and earth shaking as a new cellphone model is, no surprise this hasn't got mentioned here yet.

Yesterday the Energy Efficiency Forum launched with thousands of mayors, federal government employees, CEOs, energy providers, and ecologists all gathered to discuss how to move away from coal and oil or to use that energy more efficiently and ultimately get the United States energy efficient.

Back in 1992 this forum prompted the Energy Star rating.
This year it was really cool to see companies like Verizon and GE talking about how they want their corporation to be the first to go carbon neutral as well as seeing that the technology to build a self sustaining corporate building, personal car, and personal home is possible today and probably will be cost effective soon if not now as we look at energy costs double every few years.

For the grim picture in the oil supply thread its comforting to see that something is being done and has for the past 19 years. The best line was a Congressman last night talking about with a new President we can take those Blue Collar factories closing down into Green Collar jobs taking over our own energy needs for the first time since energy was invented.

Obama and McCain are sending people to speak later, but regardless who wins at least both sides agree something needs to be done and fast.

I hope they focus more on efficiency and alternate energies than the carbon garbage.

/nods San, that's my hope as well.

There's good news from California

To be honest I think this needs to happen in all the SW states immediately. No reason not to work the hell out of this in Vegas/SLC/Phoenix etc etc.

Empty desert land can be converted to Solar farms and help with the power crunch we're seeing out there as well.

Well they have a bigger, cheaper, cleaner renewable resource they are already tapped into in Vegas and the surrounding areas.

Cleaner than solar?

Water, the dam I would think?

Then that's a short term answer as they are begging to drain Utah aquifiers to keep that thing full.

The energy costs today to manufacture the solar panels plus the environmental impact is dramatically worse than relying on the already existimg dam, despite its age and old technology. It'll have to change at some point, but its not worth it yet.

California is a hell of a model though. They have seen dramatically higher growth than the national average in both population and economic growth yet have kept the same energy usage for the past 20 years.

It's worth it Kelraz, in the event you missed my post Vegas is begging/demanding to drain more of our water here in utah to keep that damn Damn working.

That's not an option , we're a desert state as well dernit!
