The Nepalese claim to have installed 3G service at the summit of Mt Everest, to enhance the safety of climbers. Now that you can make videos and calls and surf the web while making the trek, what is your excuse for not going?

Thats about all its good for. Still be difficult to get a helicopter up there to rescue you if you dial 911.

The idea is novel, but that claim might be optimistic. AT&T after all claims to have service in areas where they really don't (at least in my experience), let alone a telecom in Nepal (who knows, maybe they trump AT&T.. wouldn't take much quality to do that).

Helicopters don't work for Everest rescues even on a clear day, at least not for the altitudes where help is usually needed (hence the many dead bodies frozen in time along the path to the summit).
