How fearless she was, with her saucy little comment about being "47... and that's just the front side of me" (hip wag), staring down the lion's den of shallow narcissism... and then she opened her mouth and put them all to shame. Great video, I can't stomach the American version, but I'm willing to suspect that such moments are even fewer and further between on it...

Regards,
Nydia

I hope she finds a record label to help her enjoy life. She's been on the dole for awhile I take it and could use a bit of good luck.

I'm sorry - I just don't see what the big deal is.

I hate those reality tv shows, I really do.

I'm not a fan myself, but the new age of reality TV (American Idol, Dancing With the Stars, America's / Britain's Got Talent) at least celebrate real talents and culture instead of the old who-can-eat-enough-gross-things or "Hey guys, watch me punch my dad on the toilet" and other crap out there.

Nothing wrong with a talent show in my opinion! Better than most of the crap I shoot on a daily basis. (Like today's House Hunters ... gag me!)

That's because you have no talent.

NO WAY! He has a voice way to good for such simple vocalisms. a blues/soul voice like his is rare. even Retha would be impressed.

he's already signed and in Simon's stable. bet on it.

His problem is in a few short years puberty could ruin his voice.

'That's because you have no talent.'

- 'Tis true. I can't sing to save my fucking life.

I agree with Halo. Though I do occasionally stomach American Idol for my mom. Some of these folks can really sing. I would never watch it for me.

Come on Halo, ill get us a pint.

American Idol has been on what, five seasons?

I saw about ten minutes of it a couple weeks back when it ran over and I went to turn on the news; the guy who apparently is the fave to win was doing a pretty decent job of performing an old Tears For Fears tune. But he looked like an 80's(or 90's) Michael Jackson wannabe with the eye makeup and stuff.

Carrie Underwood is one hell of a talent that probably got a boost up the ladder from the show.

I won't watch any of these shows. Give me something with a plot and dialog, that engages me.

I just generally detest the evolution and rapid dominance of reality TV that's been happening since the creation of Big Brother, about, what, 6-7 years ago?

Every single programme is pretty much reality now - and all of them involve some kind of singing.

The Real World was probably the first.

Do we count Candid Camera?

This Old House and stuff like that may be older than Candid Camera. Game shows (which American Idol really is) are probably even older.

It seems like there is a lot more, but its because its cheaper to make and there is vastly more channels than ever before. And sadly, its a lot more successful than scripted programming according to Neilsen (which may or may not be correct)

Survivor I think was the start of the onslaught.

Yeah, but I watch survivor. It actually has a plot, emotion, dialogue. Haven't missed a season....and they are all very different, though I don't think they'll ever top Pearl Islands (the pirate themed season with three of the four greatest moments of survivor).

Speaking of reality TV I watched the craziest thing on SciFi this weekend. It was a reality show for the Ultimate Gamer. I freaking loved it, it was a marathon up to the season finale tonight. First reality show I could totally relate to :p Has anyone caught this yet?

Anyone catch CSI last night? Let a lot of the gameshow reality show secrets out of the bag. Like how on shows like Survivor nearly half of the cast are actors placed to create drama, etc.
I am not sure how people watch these shows with so much public knowledge about how manufactured they are.

Reality TV is scripted as well. They just don't call them writers, so they don't have to pay them union wages.

Yeah, they're called "Predators" in the industry, or a "Producer/Editor"

Anyone watching the new on discovery? It is what I think survivor should have been all along we drop your ass off with survival gear and you tap the gps button when you can not go any further. I really enjoy it.

Just because half the people apply to be on reality shows do so to "become famous," and producers choose folks to maximize potential drama doesn't make them any less entertaining. That's kind of their job. :)

Unfortunately the woman I love and married loves American Idol, so I am frequently subjected to it. Weekly, in fact.Anyone catch CSI last night? Let a lot of the gameshow reality show secrets out of the bag. Like how on shows like Survivor nearly half of the cast are actors placed to create drama, etc.
I am not sure how people watch these shows with so much public knowledge about how manufactured they are.Real World was probably the kick off of the major reality TV show drive, especially as MTV viewers grew up and wanted more mainstream attractions. Five minutes watching Real World should be enough for anyone to spot the problems...you mean it isn't real when a group of fully dysfunctional teens live somehow in a giant mansion?

All of these shows have a ton of back end planning and manipulating, even if it's just a matter of carefully editing video clips together. Wife Swap, or whatever it's called, seems to be one of the most notorious for creating situations that clearly won't work.

I will admit that while my wife subjects me to these shows, I've enjoyed To Catch a Thief. It astounds me every time when the people who signed up for the show are shocked they got robbed.

Ha, that's awesome :) - if it was in the contract, then I can't say I have too much sympathy for him, I can just imagine how that interchange went:

"And my wife was exposed to that... abomination, and learned *tolerance* for that, that... deviancy!"

I hope ABC has the guts to show it in the US, although my guess is it never sees the light of day here...
