View Full Version : 7th Anniversary coming
Bylimet Spiritwalker

With the 7th Anniversary coming upon us soon, one of the changes that is going to be implemented will be a Fabled Vulak that will not need the ring event to spawn him; and, following the celebration period they are planning on leaving the ring event out of the game so that Vulak may be a camped mob.
Having been a part of a successful ring event and Vulak slaying, I am a bit peeved at this. On the one hand there is the griping of smaller guilds that simply are unable to field the proper force to defeat the ring event, and they should have the opportunity to challenge Vulak. On the other hand, victory over the ring event is one of the few real "bragging rights" encounters still in the game from pre-PoP, and even with the advanced AA's and levels and gear it still would not be a cake-walk.
Some of the other stuff like 70-hour exp bonus period, scavenger hunt, and a new veteran AA are great, and even taking out the ring event for the Anniversary Celebration period is ok, but I am somewhat saddened that the challenge is being removed permanently. I guess if noone is doing it any longer though, it won't matter.:(

Coming from the first guild to ever defeat that ring I partially agree with you on this. However, I also remember when he was originally a camped mob and all in all I would have to say its cool that they are changing him back to the way he once was.

On the one hand, its no longer clearing all of ToV to do it anymore. On the other hand, thats just it: its not clearing ToV anymore. That was part of the challenge because everyone had to be into it with unwavering dedication, or else you'd just let someone else get an easier shot at the event. Oh well, in with the new, out with the old. It sucks, and the ring was a challenge (more than timesink because everyone had to stay frosty the entire time). Guess its another part of the replacement of everything I remember. I actually didn't know he was originally a normal spawned mob and not through the ring.

IMO, they are the ones who are missing out.
The highlight of the Jokers wasn't PoP or Luclin, but clearing ToV, completing the ring, and having that wonderful satisfaction of dispatching Vulak against what we believed to be all the odds.
That was one of the special highlights, along with Rydda'dar and Vindi, that I'm sure most Jokers remember with satisfaction.
The effort usually makes these things worthwhile, not the goodies after the task is done.
It'd be like the Ring War, without a war.
Shame, that.

LOL, I remember bumping into ya a few times in the entry chamber of ToV Halo.
Yeah, I would be dragging corpses in WW (pre-Shroud of Stealth) and trying to avoid those few who could see me, and trying to avoid the AE spells the dragons were casting on folks that had their invis drop, heh.

After all the work we put into beating that ring, we were second serverwide in defeating it by an hour. Afterlife beat us by an hour. It's hard for me to believe they would change it now, after all Rashere was in IvM then. He saw the work that went into it and how fun the encounter was.

That was good until around the 12 second mark, mainly because the music reminded me of The Wind Waker after which point it all takes a turn for the worse. It just seems to try be trying too hard to be cool and fails miserably, the music doesn't really flow with the video coupled with the majority of it being shots of calves and cornered mobs. It seems more like a video diary of Legend of the Jokers killing the Avatar of War then anything meant for entertainment, although props again for the first 12 seconds, I've probably watched that section atleast 20 times by now.
The title of the video is interesting though, "Legend of the Jokers - AoW flawless" even though the cameraman dies to said AoW, was someone from Casus Belli* hired to think that one up?
From the Ayonae Ro made videos I've seen, Jessnut's and Bini's are probably those that I would rate highest, they just seem to capture the fun that is Everquest. As it turns out Jessnut was the one that made the Talisman wipeout video so a big thumbs up to him/her.
On an unrelated note, quite a few years back there was a scuffle between Sphere of Transcendence and Rest in Peace regarding jumping in Veeshan's Peak and the guild doing the jumping wiped out, there was a video and or pictures posted regarding it, just wondering if someone has them saved still and would mind posting/private messaging me it/them.
* My apologies if Casus Belli weren't the guild that passed off kills as flawless on their website when members died/corpses were in picture.

As for making it sound like I am some nutter in a tin foil hat rattling on about conspiracy theories, it was a pot shot at a guild that did the same thing as to what the title of the video refers to, it could also be seen as humour, perhaps I should have added a few hundred *licks* in there for it to register with you.

Does green-grapes mean jealous? Not really up to date on pommy slang.
While your kill was pretty good for where you were progress wise when it happened, it doesn't magically translate into a good video, especially when it was based entirely on a plain encounter in a boring zone. If you had someone recording your Vulak fight you might have a decent video on your hands, more than 5 mob models for the win.
To get somewhat back on topic, were most of the zones silently brought down at midnight or do they have a new way to do it? I had a look around with about 2 hours to go and all the mobs were normal and there were no serverwide messages during the remainer.

For anyone interested, that might not know, the newest expansion comes out September 19th. The Serpent's Spine will be increasing levels to 75, and it will be a stand alone expansion ala Kunark or Luclin. It will introduce it's own race the Drakkin, and they will be a human/slightly dragon hybrid. I can't say too much about it as I can't break an NDA for a beta I might or might not be involved in.

Why? I'm entitled to my opinion just like your entitled to yours. Just because you think your guild is the best because all of your competition left for better games doesn't mean that it gives you the right to cop an attitude for anyone who doesn't agree with you or bows down to your greatness.
Unfortunately, it seems like quite a few of the old school who haven't quit have become elitist snobs. (not all, but alot)
So flame away like your going to and get it out of your system.

I don't know if you are attempting to direct this at me or at Trikki, but this comment couldn't be any further from the truth in my case. I'm on the most competitive American server in EQ. There are 3 guilds on my server that are all bleeding edge guilds.
As far as your opinion, by all means have your own opinion. My only issues is that your opinion on eq is based on eq 3-5 expansions ago, and they aren't informed with how the game actually us now. When you say that in your opinion the game is dumbed down based upon 6 year old content being easy, and you have idea what the current content is like, you are simply talking out your ass about something you don't know about.
I've played several other mmorpg's and in my opinion none of them have near the high end content eq has. None of them have the long term character development that eq has.
Every mmorpg has faults. Eq's major faults atm are how daunting of a task it is for a player to be prepared for any sort of high end game, and the fact the game is ancient in gaming terms. WoW's faults (again in my personal opinion) was a lack of high end content that produced tangible rewards over prior raid content, and the simplicity of getting to the high end. Add to that the amount of time between release and the newest expansion, WoW just ran out of things to keep me busy. City of Heroes has a great character creation system, but everything beyond that is fairly hollow. I could fill up pages on what I think is wrong with EQ 2. I've never played FF online or any of the Lineage titles, so I can't develop an informed opinion about those titles.
It all depends on what you are looking for out of a game. If you are strictly looking at high end raiding, no game on the market, even after 7 years, can compare to the raiding in EQ. If you are looking at long term character development, again no game on the market offers the long term advancement like EQ's AA system (sure EQ2 has AA's, but it's a shell of eq's system). Both of these are the main draws to me in an MMO, so until a game can do both of these better than eq, I'll probably remain playing it. I was very optimistic about Vanguard a year or so ago, but now the game doesn't look like it will live up to most people's expectations.

Crystana, don't tout him as being judgemental when you yourself are spouting out a very judgemental opinion based on content you may have beaten 4 years ago.
The high end raiding content is much tougher than it was 4 years ago. More unique content and certainly more of it than there ever was. Certainly wasn't this level of content in WoW or EQ2 imho and certainly not in anyother game I've tried.
I left for 18 months, came back and found the game to be as much , if not more, fun than it ever was.
