a brief chart on the 2000's gas prices

Compared to today's national average of 2.07.

At this point I'd lean on Palarran to work his numerical wizardry and factor in inflation and today's dollars vs past to show how we actually sit. Some fun numbers to peek at in the first two links. I remember 1980 prices hell remember thinking those were insane.

The reason I went looking was to try and recall what the price of oil was in the 80's during the oil glut. Atm oil sits at 57 US a barrel and still dropping despite production cuts. I suspect OPEC will further cut production in an effort to hold onto their power/monies. Without that they have lil to offer ( and less reason for us to be there!!).

So you bitch about me doing it and then fail to do so yourself.

I now remove your ranger status!!!

I was collecting more and more info and didn't want to edit while folks might be replying to the old info.

Don't like it, don't read it;P

Don't look at oil for the rate of inflation, because we all know gas right now is very low due to the depression and as soon as that finishes it will jump back up. Stamps are a better barometer for inflation.

Oh I didn't mean to tie oil to inflation. If I did I apologize...

I was looking to find info to recreate yesteryears $$ into today so we could get a real view on how things were/are.

I went back as far as the 70's and started comparing national ave on housing prices and found a huge jump in the late 70's.

Only mentioned oil as I saw the price drop to 57 US today.

This calculator will tell you based on the CPI: http://www.shadowstats.com/inflation_calculator

They have an interesting index that tries to calculate a real CPI instead of our current one which has been finagled with over the years.
