Is it just me, or does this seem like a horrible idea?

Even if it does help you keep your eyes on the road, I don't imagine blinking lights and beeping sounds would make it any easier to drive.

No, it will likely just piss me the hell off and want to drive it right back to the dealership.

Or get to the point where you have to make an insurance claim because it was 'stolen'.

The kind of problem I envisioned when I read that is that I usually look to the sides a lot. Especially when changing lanes or approaching an intersection. So I'm in heavy traffic and look toward my blind spot before changing lanes... It's going to put the brakes on? Ugh.
Training people to look dead ahead and ignore the rest of the situation is scary. I had a girlfriend once that drove like that. Trust me, it's not a good thing.

Yeah, every time I drive I am frequently checking my surroundings, as well as looking at the people going in the opposite direction to see if they're paying attention or not.

Research shows that most accidents happen because the driver isn't paying attention, according to Toyota.
While that may be true, accidents dont always come from in front of you. If you cant pay enough attention while you drive, then you shouldn't be driving. If you need a computer to help you, you need help yourself.
