There's not negotiating for them with the great infidel country. It doesn't fit in their plan for the destruction of Israel and the formation of a body of states ruled by misguided, knuckle-dragging Islamic law.

Did he also want Obama to lick his feet clean, and say he enjoyed the experience? The way his speech was worded, it sounded to me like he was posturing. Now, when Obama comes up with a diplomatically worded response, he can say "Ahh, this President is no different than the others! He did not apologize, so he is an Infidel! Death to America, Death to Isreal, ect, ect, ect.!"

I think what people wanted was Obama to at least make an overt attempt at diplomacy, he did just that, and we have our answer.
"You may fire when ready Gridley!"

I doubt many, with the obvious exception of jedd, ever gave much hope to Ahmanutjob being serious about wanting to have better relations with the U.S.; it would take away one of his main talking points when spinning the tirades against the great evils.
Obama simply needed to make an opening offer of discussion, and the rest would be handled by low level State Department folks up until such point as anything truly meaningful was being put on the table. Ahmanutjob is no doubt aware of this as well and wants to be sure to get at least some camera time out of the exchange.
Isn't it close to Presidential election time over there again?

Yeah. He's pretty irrelevant at this point (and really always was).

It wouldn't bother me if Obama did apologize for the US involvement in overthrowing the elected government in 1953. We did a lot of crazy shit to stave off the Russians in the cold war and much of it was morally wrong.
The rest of his demands are drivel. When he apologizes for holding US diplomatic personnel hostage for 444 days in the seventies, then *maybe* we can say sorry for helping Saddam in the eighties.
Bottom line...the man is a fruitcake. Iran will be best served by voting this assclown out of office.

Yep, he does have a point. the 53 coup was a deplorable act on our part. 26 years they lived under the despotic rule of our handpicked puppet and then when they threw the bastard we get all pissy and use our other little puppet to wage war on them. a fuckload of Iranians died in that war. understandable that anger remains.
I think Iran really does want to see relations with the US ease. but i fully expect the take a hard posture leading up to it.from an internal political stand point they want to be seen walking to the table with thier backs straight and heads held high. not crawling on thier knees gesticulating to the all powerfull americans.
Really pipples, Obama is 8 days into a 4 year term and i'm pretty sure Iranian negotiations is not priorioty one in the first 100 days. this is one of many public shots and grandstanding we will see from both sides while they move towards something behind the scenes.
