- A refreshing piece on why Africa remains a cess-pool of corruption and autocratic regimes, despite copious aid from the West.

Good find, thanks Halo.Another criticism of aid increasingly voiced by Africans, but rarely heard in the West is that it sponsors failure, but rarely rewards success. This alone could suggest a massive shift in aid, if we stopped to think about it. Same could be said in places like Iraq. Instead of supplying what a country needs to meet goals, set realistic goals and supply aid when those goals are met.

Be it on an individual level or national, there are virtually no examples of these handouts leading to a better situation. They should stop, or be tightly tied to increases in a diverse set of performance indicators.

I agree, this of course means handouts to nations overall.
We give out tons of cash to countries worldwide.....
Needs to stop unless, as ya'll indicated , it's tied to some sort of benchmarks.

Haha, on that note benchmarks should be set before we give money to auto industries!

The new 24 last night (AND TONIGHT!) demonstrated this unfortunate fact of life very well.
Africa. :(

Big 24 fan here, was a solid episode last night. As I spoke to the tv "oooo you're torturing Jack Buer, you're dead man" Jack grabbed him with one leg and killed him.
Told ya so!!!
Yes, this episode showed an ugly slice of what I presume life has become in Africa. ;(

For at least the past two, if not three or four, generations.
