So me and 3 guys I went to high school with have made Monday evenings "game night" and we've been plugging through Borderlands, 2 hours at a time. Well, we're a few months in so we're sadly getting close to the end of the game, and while there is all that downloadable content out there it still won't hold us out until Diablo 3 so we're going to need to find another game.
The problem is, we can't think of any. Are there any good 4+ player games that aren't MMOs but can be played online?

Console or PC?

Oh sorry. PC. Consoles are icky.
And on that note, if you've played and enjoyed Borderlands but didn't try Co-op ... Co-Op is easily ten times better.

Left4Dead(2) is decent for a few evenings worth.

Left4Dead and its sequel are good, if you're into doing online matches once you finish the campaigns. If not, you probably won't get too much mileage out of them (each campaign even on the hardest difficulty will take about 2 hours to complete, and there's only something like 4 or 5).
Bad Company 2, while not coop with the campaign, has a pretty robust multiplayer mode. There are...4 game modes at the time of writing. (I think). Each team is sub-divided into squads, which consist of 4 people(!). There are 4 distinct classes(!) with numerous weapons unique to them.
Rush: Attackers have two stations that they have to plant a charge on, or collapse the building that its in (some buildings can't be collapsed completely). Once those two stations are destroyed, a new section of the map opens up with two new stations. This repeats 3 or 4 times, Attackers win when the last set of stations gets destroyed. Defenders win by bleeding out all of the Attacker's respawn tickets (1 death = 1 ticket), which replenish every time a pair of stations get destroyed. This is probably my favorite mode next to Squad Deathmatch.
Conquest: Basically deathmatch, with 3-5 respawn flags. Whomever controls the majority of the flags will slowly tick away at the opposing side's reinforcement count, but it never really seems to alter game flow significantly. I don't play this one much.
Squad Deathmatch: 4 Squads compete to score a certain number of kills before the others do. This is my favorite, because there's a lot more stealth and flanking action happening. Also, its highly satisfying sneaking into a building someone's in and knifing them, then fading away into the mist.
Squad Rush: Rush with half the points, and one squad per side with only 20 tickets for attackers as opposed to 100 for regular rush. I don't like this mode too much, but supposedly with longer respawn times it gets enjoyable.
As I mentioned, the 4 classes are pretty diverse. Each class has unique primary weapons, gadget weapon and a couple of unique specializations, along with a unique not-quite-gadget that isn't a gun.
Assault: The "poor bloody infantry". They use assault rifles (think AK-47's, M16's, etc), their gadget weapon is an underslung 40mm grenade launcher (smoke, shotgun, frag). Their not-quite-gadget is an ammo box to replenish ammo counts. Probably my favorite class, the versatility of the AR for mid-long range combat and the 40mm's is really nice.
Medic: They heal people. They use light machine guns (PKM, M249 SAW, M60's, etc). Their gadget is a pair of defib paddles to revive people, which for attackers refund that given ticket. Their not-quite-gadget is a health pack, which lets people around you heal faster.
Engineer: They use submachine guns (SCAR-L, AK-74, etc), which are all silenced. Their gadgets are various types of anti-vehicle weapons (RPG, bazooka, tank mines). Their non-weapon gadget is a power wrench of infinite repair for vehicles.
Recon: Snipers. I don't like this class so much, since nobody seems to know how to play it very well, and the snipers end up shooting the enemy snipers, accomplishing nothing. They use various types of sniper rifles (M24, M95, SV98, SVU, VSS, etc). Their gadget weapon is C4 or a pair of binoculars to call in a mortar strike with. Their non-weapon gadget is motion mines, which will make enemies moving through their radius show up on your team's minimaps. Extremely useful for going into enemy territory.
TLDR: Bad Company 2 is fun, the multiplayer is perfect for a group of 4 due to squad sizes and the number of classes. You and your friends should get it. My steam handle is hailstorm01 and my soldier name in BC2 is toroid.

Sins of a solar empire?
Team Fortress, baby, nothing beats the classics.

We've all played Team Fortress, but that gets quite repetitive. Borderlands co-op is fun because you are progressing through a story, etc.

ya'll need to join billy vs snakeman (and i could use the referal points!) and join the same village. Preferably one that is doing zombjas regularly. Sure it's only a few minutes per day, but you can have two alts each, and can work together on village stuff until one of you decide to create your own. It's something to do....

Here's a few, not sure if your group has played them or not since they are slightly older games, but could have easily been overlooked if you were just looking among the newer games for eyecandy.
Neverwinter Nights 2
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
F.E.A.R.
Rainbow Six (Vegas 2 is limited to 2 player co-op if I remember right)
