Okay, forgive me for my lack of music knowledge.... but ... I am getting into this Alice in Chains group ( I'm on a metal/grunge kick right now).

Are they broke up or something since the lead singer is dead?

Or do they still make music?

Also, Any rec's on which cd's (albumn's) I should buy first?

Man in the box is a must of corse :)

By Man in the Box I'm guessing you mean the album Dirt?

Other than that album, Jar of Flies is the other big one but in my opinion, Dirt is by far the best one. Well, and some of there acoustical versions of their music.

I can't speak to whether there is more music being made by them.

Okay did I miss something? My Itunes won't let me copy to folders to make CD's.... did something happen?

A shame some never learned from Belushi's example.

Alice in Chains rocks! I have an excellent unplugged video of them. You should also look at Soundgarden or Chris Cornell solo.

Man in the Box is on Facelift, not Dirt (but Dirt IS their best CD). My two favorite AIC cds are Dirt and Facelift. Facelift was their first CD (you'll see one called Sap from time to time, but it's just an EP between Facelift and Dirt), Dirt was their second, Jar of Flies was their 2nd EP (I didn't much care for this album, but No Excuses and I Stay Away are good songs), and then a self titled 3rd full length album. I wasn't a big fan of anything they released after Dirt.

And Layne Staley is the name of the dead former lead singer.

AIC went on tour last year (without the lead singer of course) with Jerry Cantrell doing the vocals.

I do like Cornell. He did the Bond theme :)

I bought a "Best of" CD but I usually like to buy all the CD's in order so I can hear how a group progress' through the years.

I will go back and buy the first one and listen to it before moving on to the next. :)

Thanks for the info!

There was also a collaboration by a bunch of similar artists, including Layne.

Probably my favorite song too:

I was truly saddened to learn of Layne Staley's death when it occurred. Chalk up another one of musics greats lost to drug abuse. AIC was/is one of my favorite rock groups - the 2 unplugged tracks that Rover linked are great - that entire unplugged set was awesome to me.

I dont know which album I would say was my favorite, as I like songs off of each one a lot.

Pretty Frakked that i grew up in the same "hood" as Lane and my biggest memory of him is the time i tried to start a fist fight with him.
