First let me say I don't even own an XboX to begin with, I just remember an old screensavers episode where they mentioned MAME on xbox.

I looked up that episode, did searchs, etc, and the sheer amount of information is just daunting, I'm more confused then when I started researching. I'm comfortable with doing the modding myself(or if you know a reputable place that sells modded xboxs already for reasonable price I'd appreciate that as well).

Basically if anyone can help I'd just like some simple instructions on:

What kinda mods I need to get MAMEoX running.
Maybe links to some good guides on how to do it (I can probly find these myself, I've just had 0 luck finding out what hardware/software I need to even install Mameox)
and anything else I'd need to know.

If anyone's done this before I'd appreciate some knowledge, Thanks.

If u don't plan on using Xbox live, u can do the no mod chip bios mod. Basically all it does it rewrites the original xbox bios w/ a hacked bios. Don't ask me how read the web site above. I personally have an executer 2.3b chip. Since you are using it only for MAME, just do software mod. You don't even need to upgrade the hardrive for Mame since games are so small. If you are lookin pre-modded systems I can give you a number to a guy who lives near San Francisco. He modded mine, been working over a year. Or just check www.craigslist.org (http://www.craigslist.org/) and go under for sale => electronics => search xbox u'll find plenty.

After you install mod chip. You need to flash the bios on the mod chip, they can't ship you a mod chip pre-flashed cause that would be illegal. To flash it you must download a bios, then burn it on CDRW/DVD, when your xbox boots up first time it will ask for this BIOS CDRW/DVD. Insert it and it will do the flash automatically.

Then you have to install EvolutionX or Avalaunch, which is kinda like an OS/Dashboard for modded xbox. Then once u get that installed, turn on xbox and configure your Internet connection. Then set up your FTP server on ur XBOX.

You use ftp to transfer Mame along w/ all ur games from your PC into XBOX and just run it through EvolutionX or Avalaunch.

If you have access to a newsgroups get the Slayers Evox Auto - Installer V2.6final (http://www.newzbin.com/browse/post/767485/) that would make ur life easier, it loads evolutionX, Formats the Hardrive, locks it basically does everything.

BTW the xbox DVDROM can not read CDR, it only reads CDRW/DVDR/DVD. UNLESS YOU HAVE A SAMSUNG DVD DRIVE. Search google, there's a way to see if the dvd drive you have is made by samsung or not w/o opening the xbox.
