Can you tell the differences among the different ethnicities of Asians? It's really not that hard. I'm sure you can tell there are differences among Germans, Frenchies, Brits, the Irish, the Scots, and the Danes, and the Slavs and Italians so forth ;).

I fail to see the point of this considering that I never had much contact with folks from that area except for an occasional Japanese tourist, a Chinese restaurant owner or two and some Jet Li films.
I don't even know if I ever seen a Korean in my life either in person or on screen (except maybe for north Korean leaders on TV).

To most everyone who did not grow up around them, they all look the same and the best we can hope for is random guessing. But to people who have grown up in that background will be able to see them clearly. I think the point is to show just how little we know about people around us, but I'm not sure.

The human brain is basically a pattern recognition computer. Given enough training (and inherited skill) it can recognize a wide variety of audio and visual patterns. Telling the difference between a pen and a pencil or the difference between the voice of a male or female is just that, pattern recognition.

My point is, being unable to tell the difference is the sign of the lack of experience and not some sort of handicap or ignorance.

The whole thing is like asking a non English speaking person to identify if the dude on TV is speaking English with Scottish, Welsh or American accent and then informing him how clueless he is when he gets 30% of it right.

The average correct is 7. Which is about 39%, which is about 1/3rd. All this site proves is that they do in fact look alike. It doesn't prove that baka americans are ignorant or whatever, it just shows that asians look similiar to one another. It'd be a lot like taking people from England Scotland and Ireland and making the same site, sure there are differences but they appear the same.

Don't take your results so personally, jesus. Getting a low score does not make you ignorant, and you don't have to try to justify your low score by writing it off. I found it pretty interesting, because a korean friend of mine always says how he can tell the difference between them, and i obviously can not ^_^ He got 13/18 in the test by the way.

The results can be more based upon how differant cultures can tell the differant features of people. Whites/Caucasians/however you want to call them, generally look at people and describe them based upon hair color, eye color, things of that nature, which explains why whites have a harder time differentiating blacks and asians. Blacks and asians in general have very similar eye and hair color as others of similar origin(this is of course discounting the people in this test that have bleached or dyed their hair). Whereas at least most black/african americans/etc. I know tend to differentiate people based upon skin tones, lip and nose shape, haircut. The easiest way to see this is in how differant races describe people to the police when a crime has been commited. Black people seem to have problems differentiating whites, much like whites have problems differentiating other races. It's not ignorance of one side or another, its familiarity. I would venture to say based upon Rybit's results in this test that he's of asian decent, and I know nothing about the guy so that may be an unfair representation.

I grew up in Wisconsin, so all I see are people who look like the useless hmong community that takes their government checks and blow it all on mods for their hondas.
