Well luckly in our state we have traffic laws against riding in the left hand lane on interstates and highways. Here the left lane is for passing a vehicle only...and if you're not in the process of passing a vehicle you are to be in the right lane. I love getting out of state people who just ride in the left lane when I'm behind them. They don't usually get a ticket unless they piss me off....but it's still fun to educate them none the less.

Spend a year or so Driving in Germany. You'll either learn to drive or learn to take public transportation.

Left lane is for Passing, Middle lane for steady flow, right lane for you slowpokes and those either on their way in or out of the autobahn.

Came back stateside, daily frustrated with the inability of American drivers.

You can merge from 4 lanes to 1 at 55mph in Germany without having to slow down or wait for some uncourteous driver to let you in. Driving at its finest.

Should be manditory for all Americans to drive for a year in Germany.

Just clicked on the link.. never even suspected those statements about Germany there...

wtf does driving in the left lane at the speed limit solve? it's stuff like that which causes accidents and traffic jams. it's completely inconsiderate. if someone is going the speed limit in the right lane or middle, fine, so be it, i'll just pass or stay behind if i'm in no rush. that person is doing no harm. but in the left lane? then you're just an all around asshole. not letting people pass you when you're going the speed limit in the passing lane.. now that's just retarded.

course, i live in southern california. in order to keep up with traffic, you'd better be doing at LEAST 70 even in the middle lanes, often in the right hand lane too. that left lane is for those going 80+, except during traffic hours when every single lane has to be used as parking lots for miles.

Mack Gorilla
06-28-2003, 10:32 PM
lol. When I fly down the left lane at 80+ there are still tailgaters. The middle lanes go too slow (like 65-75) and I can't merge in and slow down my pace so Mr Harley F150 can pass me. Fuck that

lol...

i dont mind someone flicking me off, it amuses me to see how angry people get because they are forced to slow down.

I vividly remember the other day, I was driving my friends car (wrx) cuz he broke his hand and his car is more fun to drive. We were heading to the beach and some m5 was tailing me, obviously wanting to go around. I actually wanted to let him go, being m5 is my favorite car, so i show my arrow and was gonna let him pass, instead he tries to be "the man" with his girl in the car and tries to go around me. Wrx doesn't have great pick up after 80, but it picked up quick enough, he was going to get a head of me eventually...its a fucken m5, but there was traffic and he never did. Basically he tailed me for about 10 miles going ape shit while my friend and I laughed about it going 65.

Driving slow owns you all...Don't like it? Well then, lemme get you a shiny silver spool.

Well at least you have the same favorite car as I.

Look up The Nowack M5 and The RMS SCed M5 (500-600+hp)

IMO the left lane is for people who know exactly where they are going. Not crusing along, not looking for a certian exit.

Believe me, pissing people off on the freeway can lead to some really f-ed up stuff happening, is it really worth it just to annoy someone?

yes sir-e-bob.

I drive slow because its the opposite of acting childish. Acting childish is not following the road signs and speed limits. Maximum speed means you cannot go over that and I follow the limits because I am a good member of society, by slowing down in the left lane I keep the people behind me safe! (even if they do tend to tail gate :)

Well, awhile back i was driving in the left lane 10-15 miles over the speed limit which everyone else was doing, and i had a guy tailgate me for like 2-3 miles. I couldn't go right to let him pass because of traffic. The idiot on my tail finally passed me and the second he got in front of me he hit his brakes hard. If i hadn't gone to the left and spun out on the grass in the middle i would have backended his car and some people may have been hurt. He on the other hand barely slowed down and took off.
Idiots like that are the main reason i go no more than 5-10 miles above the speed limit now usually. 50% of the people i see speeding think they are a nascar driver wannabe and the road is their personal track. As long as your going the speed limit or above i won't mind. But the people going 10 miles under it are the ones most likely to cause an accident imo.
Also, is it me or are alot of the SUV drivers the ones you see speeding? The majority of vehicles that i see speed by me are of that type.
But above all, the worst idiots are the ones doing 90+ with a cellphone plastered to their ear..I see that i goto the other lanes quick...

Why in hell don't people actually make speed limits that mean something?

Set a limit. Add in draconian penalties for breaking it. All the people who confound "right" and "legal" stop being pissy, and otherwise traffic problems don't change.

That makes as much sense as "Pull that emergency lane BS with me, and the last thing you'll see before you hit the Jersey Barrier is a car swerving to avoid a road hazard"

The scary thing about where I live is that you can go faster and have less traffic to deal with if you drive in the r[/i] hand lane.

None of you are prepared for the horrible driving you will see on the five lane whore known as the Washington Metropolitan Beltway. I-495. Maryland/Virginia. Millions of asshats and every one of them driving an oversized SUV with a cell phone affixed to their ear.

How I despise them all.

Driving on I-495 necessitates having an M1A1 Abrams Battletank. Oh, it would be glorious.

This is not the same place the Brady bunch went for that vacation! It is a motorist HELL!! We have over a few million people crammed on this one little tiny frickin isle with only the H-1, H-2 and everybodies favorite! The H-3 (didn't see that one coming did ya?!)

Pearl Harbor is here, Hickam A.F.B. is here, Schofield Army Base is here... There are more military guys here than anywhere else I've ever been stationed! An that includes Saudi and Korea!

If ya want to have a real driving nightmare, try getting to the airport in the middle of any day from down town Waikiki. You should be getting there around dinner time... tomorrow. :O) Relax and enjoy what you do have. You could be here.

No, and I never plan to.

North Carolina by way of New York.

The traffic in North Carolina is far more dangerous than anywhere in NY, including the LIE or Cross Bronx, because it is unpredictable.

Traffic in NY is easy to deal with once you get used to it.

Can u guys please drive safe.
I once though like some of you, i could sit in my car and swear and yell at the man/woman in front of me but you know what?
about a month ago i was getting a lift home by my friend. He gains 170Km/h and it's heavely raining outside. Guess what happens?

He looses control over the car and we start to spinn, 6-7 360's. Straight into a trafficlight a big one. the ride continues,
spinning just by a gasstation by 3 meters, where some plp are filling their tanks. And the ride stops 150 meters down the street straight into a concrete wall. We allmost killed ourself's and thoose who was filling gas.
Please think about how you are driving guys.
If not for your sake...for everyone else!

Weldar, it is one thing to have control and quite another to be driving beyond the capabilities of the car/road/weather/yourself. It is obvious that your friend was not in control even before the accident.

Taking a professional driving course helps you to understand your abilities and the capabilities of the vehicle you’re driving. You don’t take a 90deg corner at 60mph in a SuV or full size van; however you could take that corner in a Porsche or other high performance car. You don’t hit the brakes or speed up on icy roads, sure way to wind up in the ditch or elsewhere, especially when you are crossing a bridge and getting ready to depart the far side.

I’ve never had a driving course outside of the US so I can’t speak to how European or other countries handle this training. I’ve also had a few defensive driving courses and some other professional driving courses which were required for one of my jobs in my past. It really pays to know how a vehicle reacts on different road conditions and how to respond to those conditions. Taking a book/internet defensive driving course is not as practical as getting behind the wheel and getting the same training.

It is also a matter of courtesy which lane you drive in. People in the US don’t really have that kind of road courtesy which is evident in Germany. Mostly because the way we are taught to drive and the various mentalities of regions of this country. By that I mean, in LA or New York you live your life at 80-100 mph, in the Midwest you’re a little more laid back maybe living at 60-90 mph and in the South, you’re moving along at 30-50mph. Nothing wrong with that at all, it is a way of enjoying your life. This attitude of lifestyle also translates into the things we do, how we talk, walk, drive, etc. Folks in LA / New York speak very quickly and those in the South tend to take their time, nothing wrong with that at all.

So, when it comes to driving, those same attitudes come into play. What needs to be taught is rules and courtesy of the road. If you plan on driving slower than the posted speed limit, please stay to the right. If you’re going the speed limit, stay right or middle lanes, and if you’re in a hurry pass on the left but move your butt back to the middle.

If you see construction up ahead and there are 3 lanes moving into one, be courteous and let people merge in WITHOUT having to stop. It works like a zipper, left, right, left, right and so on, you can merge from 3 to 1 lane doing 50mph if you follow this simple advice.

I live in Texas, if I’m on a two lane road and I’m traveling faster than the car in front of me, 9 out of 10 times the car in front will pull partly or fully over to the shoulder without them slowing down or stopping and let me pass, and I do the same if others are traveling faster than I am. Now, granted this assumes that there is a wide enough shoulder for you to do this. But that is Southern hospitality for you, allowing those to pass by without getting it stuck in your craw.

Road rage can be eliminated if people just understood the simple philosophy of stay right, pass left. We’ll all get there in OUR own time, no need to force others to get there on your time.

I traveled to big bear recently, a lake vacation area near LA. There was about 50 miles on a 2 lane (high way 38, one lane up, one lane down, speed limit 50) going up and around the hill. I was in a new 93 saab. People were driving civics, suvs, what not, but the only people that actually let me pass were RVs (on turnouts).

People in slow ass cars would stay in the lane, see me tailing them, not even move over a little to the right as i passed them. I mean some were going 35, barely pulling up the hill, and when the divider turned into a passable divider i zoomed right passed them. I wasn't made, I really didn't care, I do it on the freeway, i cant get mad at someone doing it there...but the difference was, on the freeway ill go faster than the speed limit, and these guys were crawling up the hill at such a slow pace it was laughable.

What i'am saying is that things can happen, even if your not travelling in 170km/h. Even if you think u have control in 70km/h, you don't if it is rainy outside. It depends on many things for instance the tires. We were going in a Nissan 200SX atm and that is a sport car and can handle that speed, though not in rain and during the condition of his tires.
All i'am saying is for plp to take it easy, can't harm anyone to tell em what CAN happen if u exeed the speed limits during the wrong conditions. :\

Classic example of over driving and a lack of knowledge / experience.

You're right that it depends on many things like tire tread, pavement conditions, visability, drivers experience, etc. Driving 100mph on wet city streets is not smart driving. Common sense was tossed out the window.

I've seen folks drive or try to drive at 50mph on icy roads, folks who have no clue as to what black ice is and wind up in a ditch faster than you can blink.

As I stated earlier, get a driving course that is hands on, one that puts you in those situations in a controlled enviroment so you can learn to handle the vehicle. Nothing beats experience except common sense, which would tell you that driving at 100+mph on rain slicked city streets is not a smart move, you're lucky to be alive and I hope you learned a vaulable lesson. I'm glad you're here to read this.
