An American Community?

How many Europeans do we have left here? Off the top of my head I'm thinking me, Anterak and Wiggo. Is that right?

Following on from the "hrm" thread - now conveniently in FFA section - I think the biggest consequence of EQ not being the focus of these forums anymore, is the loss of European members and European topics/perspectives.

Don't worry, I'm not harking back to the Hartmut/Taino/Ytrok days of intense Euro/US flame-wars around 2001-3, but even just a few years ago the topic range was far more diverse, and the opinion range much wider.

I guess a lot of people think this a good thing? I know Brits have much more in common with Yanks than they do the rest of Europe, but even I don't think it's a good thing. Indeed it's a real shame not to have a larger European population around here.

Its probably not going to get any bigger than it currently is unless for some reason another game becomes really popular and people come here that play it. Or they stumble along it by accident and find the topics of discussion of interest. I do wish we have more EU participants, but unlikely.

Over all I frequent several forums and they usually pertain to something I am doing hobby wise....cars, boats, working out ect. Then on each one of those forums they usually have a real world discussion part and the same topics are generally talked about that we talk about here...which is usually current world issues.

Meh, at the moment it appears to be the US hellbent on mucking up world politics, so our threads keep wandering to topics like our selection of the next runner up for Dumbest President Yet. Keep posting on international issues, they're just as interesting to me.

simple fact the forum community isnt growing. Unfortunately a.ro is gone as a server so potential new people from that isnt likely. San changed our domain to attempt to garner some more people via google searches and the like. But we do we offer to "drive in more buisness?"

At close to 56, going all weekend is not the problem; finding a partner that I want to go all weekend with is what proves difficult (prefer late 20's to 40, and with enough intelligence to know what a current event is, and not concerned about her makeup if we decide to run out for a sandwich, and must appreciate a range of music such as jazz and blues and old classic rock).

Remember the "100-year Lease" the British Empire "signed" with the Qing dynasty in "leasing" Hong Kong to the British Empire? It's funny how agreements are the Gentleman's way of handling disputes, but it's also more interesting how the British Empire dishonors the agreement when it turns out it's become more of a burden. Macau, similarly, was another island colonized by Portugal, only returned to the People's Republic of China in 1999.

Europeans seem to like taking over countries (Germany, Great Britain, France are just a few examples) in Africa and other countries where they want to spread White culture. Let's not forget that little incidence even after World War II where India was still a Crown colony. It's funny that only after the European Union was formed that Europeans started to care about being gentle to the world. So bring in more Europeans?

You're right, though, that the European world has more in common with the US than the rest of Asia does. Japan was lucky not to have been colonized given that the US was busy fighting a Civil War on slavery (LOL at civil rights) and shooting red 'ndians (remember General Custer and his mass-murder plans?). The Philippines (gotta love America!) being a territory of the US? The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1881 (go USA!)? Oh yeah, let's not forget that the Spanish Empire and their influence on South and Central America. Brilliant! I wish I thought of it myself.

China wasn't so lucky--remember the Open Door policy? The First and Second Opium War (thanks Brits!)? The 8-Nation Alliance where European countries such as Austrian-Hungrian invasion known to the Chinese as the Boxer Rebellion? Oh yeah, let's not forget that the Europeans tried to spread their genetic material as much as they could with the rape and murder of lots of women, children, and men.

So the Brits created the most recent example of fighting a war with drugs, not the war on drugs with opium. Yup, I just wish for more self-righteous Europeans to join the board, after you're done having crumpet and tea, you can rape and plunder my country just like you did to China (Hong Kong, Macau were finally released) and India, as well as South Africa.

I'm the last one to defend China (I was born in Taiwan and went to middle school there), but the Western powers fascination with Tibet just pisses me off time and again. I also want to say the Western viewpoint is very single-sided. The Dalai Lama makes Catholic priests look like Mother Teresa. People should read up how Tibetans and Han Chinese were enslaved in Tibet. When I read about the earthquakes in the Western news, the first thing I see are criticisms of China and Tibet. You guys need to realize that the Dalai Lama has something to gain by stirring up something, just like China does as the rightful successor of the Qing dynasty, which included Tibet.

So yeah, let's bring on more Europeans here who make one-sided opinions on Asia! Come on, you can give me opium to shut me up!
