View Full Version : Ancient Cyclops/Quillmane spawn spoiled.

For those of you that don't read the internet...
http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=143508
There's one spawn in South Ro with a 30.66666666 minute repop time that has a 10% chance of being the ancient cyclops, but he has to spawn at night. He's on the same spawn table with a_desert_madman, a_dervish_cutthroat, a_sand_giant, and a_mummy.
Truth is stranger than fiction:
ENCOUNTER_DESCRIPTION SROHusamAncientNightfall
MONSTER_1_NAME a_desert_madman

And Quillmane...
http://www.fohguild.org/forums/mmorpg-general-discussion/35658-eq-cheaters-nostalgia-eq1s-greatest-exploits-rumors-30.html#post1268982
It was similar to the AC's spawn table. Zone wide spawn location, and a 1% chance to spawn on (if I recall properly) a 30 minute spawn cycle (kill the PH, it'd be 30 minutes before the next spawn roll).
The placeholders were all common mobs found on the faster "regular" spawn tables in the zone, so there was no easy way to figure out what needed killing.
The good news was, there were no night tables. The bad news was, there were no night tables forcing depops.
When I implemented the Mage quest, I raised the spawn chance on Quillmane to 3% and reduced the spawn timer by half (15 minutes). Combine that with the epic "gold rush" into the zone, it had a substantial impact on the amount of cloaks entering the world game-wide. But I know substantial doesn't mean shit when you've been camping for days.
Speaking of both the mage quest and the AC, I actually put a duplicate one in EK for awhile, on the same table with Tarbul (Tears), as a 1%. He was live for a few weeks before Abashi had kittens. I gave him another litter with the BFG in Velious.
Kendrick also hinted that the original FA quest that Brad swore was in game, never was.

I think we eventually figured that out the hard way. Settling on killing everything in hopes of forcing the named spawn.
I never did get Quillmane to spawn blast it.

It was on a MUCH faster respawn timer than the rest of the zone, and that's how I eventually ended up getting my cloak. I camped that thing for YEARS, until finally a "friend" of mine whom shall remain nameless ran ShowEQ (at least I think thats what he ran... its been so long and Ive done too many drugs to remember) to see when mobs popped and where.
We would round up the entire zone and kill it all as fast as we could, and then he would watch the mobs repop and figure out which were placeholders based upon their repop time. Once we figured that out, we were able to spawn Quillmane left and right - although we mostly got those legs to drop, we did eng up getting 4 cloaks in a day.
That was the first and only time I ever really did anything questionable in EQ, other than running a macro program on a druid to repeatedly forage Dragon Eggs in NToV to raise my baking skill with for a brief period of time :D

How many times did you raid VT after Kinuvan exploited to repop the raid events?
Fandros

I don't know if you recall tale but VT was already buggy as hell during initial release. How were we to know Kinu , I found out 3/4 of the way through our run, was somehow popping the zone.
That was sheer torture doing VT every night all the way through every night.

I swear I didn't know he was doing it for a while - he liked to find tricks and keep them pretty secret, trying to prove he was better than everyone else. I don't think it was ever even specifically told to me; I believe it was just finally blatant enough one day that I caught on.
Man, there's so much about EQ I've forgotten... just thinking about stuff like that brings back memories. I miss the days of guild competition a lot. EQ is so watered down now...

Fanny and I would always represent the human sides in the race pvp wars in the arena. We always had good times. I would sit there and call targets for us to gang rape.
I loved those types of events though usually I could just stand in the middle of the arena and people would just curve around me without usually bothering to take a shot except for the higher level people. I still laugh sometimes when I think about the ridiculous amount of hps I had.

Davan has the right of it tho, he and I would always had to the race wars in the Arena and have a blast. Was great fun!!

I'm familiar with it (my roomie plays it constantly), but it just isn't my cup of tea. I just find the graphics a little too cartoony and advancement too fast/easy. It does have the attraction of requiring less time and lots of people really like it though.

I've liked it since release but have to admit each patch it just gets better and better. At least Order has half a chance now with their Rocketmen with their mirrorball effects. hehe :D
The live events are kind of neat, every time you click the tab whatever the theme is currently a sound is played. This live event is about dwarfs and beer so every time you click the tab you hear a dwarf say things like.... "Let's get pissed!", or "Ahhhhh beer".... last time it was heavy metal and the tab would play a guitar riff. Also part of the beer/keg event is boasting over the body of an enemy player or toasting another class. And of course finding hidden mugs and kegs and drinking... Little things like that in this game make me giggle. That and I say Bollucks! and Scum! and How dare you! When I'm hit. It seems more of an adult game than others :D Come play Byl!

Ryan called last night, and told me that after he hit 40 he went to do some strutting around and kick butt, and ended up having his ass handed to him repeatedly; being a Guild Leader apparently puts a target on his back. He thinks he will be getting some serious revenge once he gets geared up.
I would take a look at it but I have so little time for play these days, that something like WoW where I can actually do stuff in a 20-30 minute block of time is more my speed.

Aye Byl if you can kill a guild leader sufficient amount of times, any guild leader 25 times, you get the title "Lead Lopper".

I think they should implement a coward system for those pricks! Man I was in a 4 group each side Reikland Hills last night. It was insane to see that many people in one SC. Order is getting very strong on our server now. And 1.01d should help locking DW become a reality.

Vaniki spoiled! (http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?start=150&topic_id=143508#2114054)
I've always been curious about the elusive Vaniki, myself.
There are five spawns that can appear as Vaniki. The respawn time is 122 hours. Each spawn point has a 10% chance to spawn as Vaniki. Vaniki is unique, so there can only ever be one of them up at any given time. If the spawn is not Vaniki, it will appear as an unkillable invisible man placeholder. In either case, Vaniki or placeholder, the NPC will despawn 122 hours later.
This implementation makes the Vaniki NPC rare and essentially uncampable.
Followup clarification:
When these 5 spawns initially trigger (not when the zone comes up - there is a delay before they will appear) there's a ~41% chance that Vaniki will be in the zone. 122 hours later, if there is no interference, all 5 will despawn, and 122 hours later they will respawn. Each spawn location operates independently of the others, making the behavior of the system more complex if Vaniki is killed since the slain spawn will no longer occur synchronously with the other 4.
Vaniki is the rat in Dragon Necropolis that drops the Willsapper.

Why did you feel the need to correct a spelling mistake/typo when everything else in my post was accurate. I only saw the level of Najena when I looked up the spelling of her name, so you wouldn't have something else about which to be an asshat (see no ending a sentence in a preposition either).
What's good enough for the goose is good enough for the gander. If you want to correct a typo of mine, than I'll correct you about the level of a mob. It's not like I didn't know what the item I was talking about was. I said the correct mob, and hell, I still remember without looking it up that it was a held item that had +9 int and glowed red.

I am from house of pain
I am from house of style
I am from house of pancakes
I am from no house
Also, and I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry, if you want to continue the dialogue regarding the white wine Lady Shae asks you to buy her, you have to mis-type:
I will buy you whine (sic)
Awesome.

I learnt all I needed to learn in Qeynos Sewers and Splitpaw! As well as the harsh school that was BB.
Ahh memories.
Before the ability to have a shared bank, I used to go down to the sewers to the first room with the thieves, where there was that small alcove on the side; drop a bag, log to other character that was already camped in alcove and pick up bag. Was the easiest way to swap stuff between chars when playing by yourself. This was before joining Lost Fires, after which I could just hand it to someone, hehe.
