Car bomb in the market, and at least one bomb in a hotel. Story here (http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/07/22/egypt.explosions/index.html), with death toll rising to 45+ per the Washington Post.

Hmm, one of the last places I'd expect an attack to happen.

I believe that city has been attacked before. It's a resort town, so often visited by foreigners and, perhaps to a terrorist fanatic's eyes, is a source of decadence and debauchery for other Muslims.

An important thing to remember, to many of the more fanatical islamic factions, even being muslim, is not a garauntee against violence, you are still an infidel unless you believe in Brand X(tm) Islam i.e. Sunni, Shi'Ites etc etc

Actually there is a bomb or two in Egypt every year, usually around tourists. It is nothing new, just gets more attention due to London this time (and due to the the highest number of casualties since the 90's)
Egypt might not like Israel but it is as 'west friendly' as it comes in the region and the government is very heavy handed with terrorists and actively cooperates with the CIA because their economy would collapse without the tourists thus the fanatics have all the reason to blow up a bazaar or two once in a while.

Thats what I thought as well Sumamael. Egypt would be "one" of the last places on Earth that I would ever visit. Thought it was always a terror infested country, even before 9/11.
Edit:
With all the media attention the bombings are getting you can bet all those little wantabe Osama's are going to be putting on a show to take some fame for themselves.

The most popular terrorist activity in Egypt now is shooting up tourist buses.. As long as people want to see the pyramids and such ....we will face these sort of things there.
