I weep at the thought of how badly they're going to tear that show up to fit it into 'acceptable' TV standards.

As for anime ideas... Haven't seen any new ones recently that I've gotten into. Though I did just try out that NarutoFan plus thing, and they have a good 50-75 different series available to download hella fast, so I'm going to check out a few. I keep hearing good things about bleach, but I'm on episode 7 and am ready to give up. Does it get better? I thought they talked too much in naruto...

I'd say Samurai Champloo, best series I've seen in a while. Just in case there's someone out there who hasn't seen it. For those that don't know, its from the same guy that did Cowboy Bebop. It's not as incredible as that, but still damn good.

I've noticed that I usually like the series that have a set ending(26 episodes or so )much more then the ones that go 100+ for some reason. I wish more TV shows over here did that, actually having a set ending and storyline advancement is something I rarely see.(outside of the occasional HBO mini-series I catch on dvd....mmmm... band of brothers....)

Steamboy? Still need to see that one.

Bleach is, as they say, the shit! I don't know, there's something about the series that I just love. I admit that there are episodes that aren't that good and it's sometimes slow, but it's definitely one of my favorites. Oh yeah and if I'm not mistaken it does have a set ending, but I can't remember how many episodes there will actually be.

Samurai Champloo started out really good imo and the fights were awesome, but I had to stop watching after the episode with the Dutch gay guy. Does it get better again after that?

Oh yeah and as for the NGE thing, that's just sacriledge and I'm staying as far away as possible from it!

DiscW
07-28-2005, 10:58 AM
Heh, I thought the gay guy one was both funny and sorta interesting. But yes, there aren't too many other 'wacky' episodes. There's one about baseball(seriously), but it isn't too bad. The action is best when it's someone that's actually involved in the story. If you like the fighting so far, the last episode will give you cream jeans.

And isn't bleach still in manga? So it's definetly going to be loonngg. Does the show get better? Now that I think about it, simply saying 'set ending' sounds pretty stupid. I just mean the series where they (seem to, at least) have everything planned out from the beginning. More like a long mini-series then a normal television show.

Thormir, I did not know that, FOX ran it for a couple episodes and i freaking loved it.

Also, any chance Outlaw Star could be available?

Gemini
07-28-2005, 11:44 AM
Hmm, well I have been thinking about giving Champloo another shot and it would seem that you just settled it for me. As for baseball in the series, although rather wrong from a timeline point of view, makes sense in a way. I mean, it IS the most popular sport in Japan after all. There are lots of things I would like to ask, but the answers would all include spoilers.

Bleach is still in manga, yes, but I'm not sure for how long. The thing is that the story has come so far in 42 (or around there) episodes that I can't really see it getting anywhere near 100eps. There are some ways the story could turn that would make it that long of course, but it doesn't seem like it to me. Oh yeah and it seems very thought out if you ask me and there are some great fights in it. Another thing I like alot is how the characters can keep improving every few episodes (or so it seems at times). This could be seen as stupid I guess, but I like it.

Bleach really gets great around episode 28ish. I'm up to episode 33 so far, and I love it. I suscribe to Anime-Direct.com and they have alot of anime as well. 50-75 series and 3 servers to carry the load so its never slow.

If you like series with set-endings, check out My Hime. Its great!

It would be nice to see Monster put up, although that is only subbed up to episode 58. Gankutsuou if you would prefer a fully subbed anime, maybe Azumanga Daioh if you want something humourous.

What kind of a series is My Hime then?

NameMy HiME ( Mai-HiME )Number of Episodes:26 |StatusComplete|

Description:
Tokiha Mai and her sickly younger brother, Takumi, have received a scholarship to attend the prestigious Fuuka Academy. On the way, the ferry they are travelling on becomes the site of a destructive battle between two girls wielding apparently supernatural powers. This is only the beginning of their troubles, as Mai learns that she herself possesses these powers - the powers of a HiME.

I would also recommend Prince of Tennis, its complete, but its *GASP* 178 Episodes long!!!! Its worth it though, its really well done.

Hunter X Hunter is another good series, and only 62 episodes complete!

If anyone knows where I can find Elfen Lied in direct download please let me know!

oh guru's of anime i bow to your wisdom:

I loved Gundum Wing, Outlaw Star, Big O...i like the slightly more serious ones over the outright comedic ones. Besides Escaflone is there any other good Mech ones? I don't really dig the other Gundum series, but I loved robotech growing up and I guess i'm tyring to find something oh the same vein.

It's a decent story, but clearly influenced by Evengelion to the point where one is unlikely to have existed without the other. The ending is likewise nigh inscrutable, but it's worth a viewing.

I've always been a kind of amateur anime watcher. Video stores around here don't have much of it and I never knew enough to spend the money buying any from the what-seems-to-be-big-selection from Best Buy. I didn't want to waste $150 on some collection and have it suck.

Since I got on Netflix I've been getting a lot more of it. Evangelion is totally awesome and one of my favorites so far. I have a lot in my queue that people have recommended like Hellsing, Kite, Perfect Blue and Fullmetal Alchemist. These all look pretty good and I'll find out when they arrive.

Anyway, one I would recommend is the Berserk series. I'm only on like disc 2 but it is pretty sweet so far. What I didn't realize is that I have an old Dreamcast game called Sword of the Berserker: Guts' Rage that was based on the anime which came from the manga. Had that game for like 5 years, never played it and just now made the connection. I might play it now.

But anyway, the anime is pretty good. The main guy carries a sword as long as he is tall and I think they might have stolen this idea to make Cloud in FFVII. He is a loner but ends up getting owned by this girly guy who leads a badass mercenary band and then must join the band. His skills are immediately known and he becomes a powerful officer who is well respected in the group. Since I haven't seen it all yet I don't know much more but I think that after Guts and Griffith become tight, Guts gets betrayed and this ultimately sets the stage for where both of their lives take them.

Great so far.

Paying someone for hosting free fansubs is lame, even more so when they had nothing to do with the production of said fansub.

Bittorrent and IRC is really all you need to get all your anime needs,

AnimeSuki (http://www.animesuki.com/) for unlicensed.
Boxtorrents (http://www.boxtorrents.com/index.php) for licenesed.
AniDB (http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=main) to track down who subbed what and go to their website for torrent/IRC bot information.

If all that fails just use google or a torrent search engine like Defiant (http://defiant.ws/) to find them for you.

As for Gundam SEED Destiny -

Anime Kingdom & AnimeOne turned Haro^2 & Tori^2 episodes can be found on torrent here: 1-26 (http://www.boxtorrents.com/details.php?id=127820) and 21-40 (http://www.harotori.org/?p=index)+.

Or you could get SEED-Fansubs on torrent (http://seed.eatshoe.com/) or from their IRC bots (http://seed.eatshoe.com/bot).

I agree that paying for unlicenced subs sucks, but my computer at work doesn't allow me to install any programs so bittorent is out of the question. Therefore direct HTTP downloads are my only option. :P

Not that I recall so far. BUT, the first episode (which is really from the middle of the guy's life) has him fighting a baddie who has this weird necklace with one big bead. The bead is kind of like a face but the parts are all strewn about it in odd locations. Then when u get to episode 2 it goes back to when Guts is young and starting out. When he meets up with Griffith, Griffith is wearing a necklace with the same kind of bead/stone. He names it but I forget what they called it. This might not be what you are thinking of.

Go read the manga. The anime is only about 7ish volumes of a currently 25+ volume manga. It's just the 'origin' of the character. It's worth it just for the crazy ass artwork, but the story is excellent too, if a bit wierd.

The last episode of the series is quite... ahem.. negative.

Paying to download subs is mainly just for the convenience of being able to download 8 different episodes at the same time at 200k/b a sec each. Or a meg a sec for one. I'd never pay 10 bucks a month for it though.

Saragon the Warlock

It sure beats scrounging around the internet for high quality .AVIs on a server that isn't monopolized by people and downloading at 3kbps. /shrug

And they update and add series weekly =/

I figure it will take me about 2 more months to finish downloading all the series I want off of there, and then i'll cancel. So 30$ for 20 complete series is a pretty good deal to me.

It would appear (http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=1176&showallag=1) that episode 22 is as far as any group has subbed it thus far, you'll just need to wait for them to finish off the rest of the series.

Not sure about the quality of this as I can't find any information on the group that did it, but episode 24-26 of Ghost In The Shell S.A.C. 2nd GIG:

Episode 24 (http://datorrents.com/download.asp?id=1498&name=Ghost_in_the_shell_2nd_gig_24%5Bripped%20by%2 0HuH%5D.zip.torrent)
Episode 25 (http://datorrents.com/download.asp?id=1517&name=Ghost_in_the_shell_2nd_gig_25%5Bripped%20by%2 0HuH%5D.torrent)
Episode 26 (http://datorrents.com/download.asp?id=1518&name=Ghost_in_the_shell_2nd_gig_26%5Bripped%20by%2 0HuH%5D.torrent)

Edit:

Well im writing this since my release seem to confuse alot of people IM not the subber or have done the initial Raw.
Ive only encode this from Honk Kong DVD after some people ask me too because they were tired of waiting for LMF
(which i consider the best and i will continue to download their release) so YES quality is low for both sub and
image but at least you can know the end of it. while waiting for true release done by LMF. im sorry if i confuse you
with episode 23 thinking that i was the subber and all.
