So I'm looking at replacing the processor in my computer with something a bit more beefy.

Currently, I'm using this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116072).

I'm pretty happy with it, but I want to make a switch that will last me for the next several years. Any thoughts on this?

Additionally, as part of the purchase, I'm looking to swap my heatsink/fan assembly. The current one I have uses those goofball grappling hook things that you don't screw in and just push/pull. I destroyed my motherboard the first time because it bent the entire thing inward, because the instructions (I think? I may have been an idiot) were not very clear.

As a result, I want to go with regular screws because I'm old-fashioned, and I also don't really feel like destroying my motherboard again.

I found this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118003) and was wondering what the opinions were. I don't usually overclock, but I like my processors running at a consistently cool temperature.

I like Zalmans, I have an earlier model in one of my other PCs and have been very happy with it. It's quiet too.

Regarding your CPU just wondering why you wouldn't make the arch jump to the new socket and mb? I was in the same boat, I could upgrade my CPU or I could make the jump. I am choosing to make the jump and ride the wave for a years if possible.

I just upgraded the motherboard/processor two summers ago or so I'd say. Also, at this point in the game, if I were to upgrade the mb again I'd be replacing the RAM etc again. LGA 775 (I think) is still being developed for, so I figure I can make an upgrade in the CPU and not pay for it later because it would have been better to replace the MB. Or so I hope, anyway.
