I have been thinking of picking up a digital camera finally, and having mentioned it to my mother, she left a message for me about one she saw on QVC. (Go figure)
Anyway, the only info I have on the camera is it is a Hewlett Packard, which all my other stuff is as well. It is a HP 3Xzoom, 8.0 megapixel, 3.0 diagonal LCD, normally $169 selling right now for $99.96.
With that limited information, is it even any use asking if anyone knows anything about if that might be a good camera?
Thanks for any help.

I've been known to own a few digital cameras.
In the price range you're looking at you can get either a Nikon or a Canon, probably at BestBuy.
The little Canons are pretty good, Canon has it together with Digitals and also Nikon is heavily pushing sales with rebates etc...
If you want to spend a bit more you could look at a Canon Digital Rebel or a Nikon D40, I just bought a D40 for my daughter, it's a pretty good camera...takes a nice pic...but then again...it's that Nikon glass...virtually unbeatable.

I'm with Rover on this one, go to a company that makes cameras. HP contracts out and slaps their names on theirs, Canon makes em in house. They are also the industry leader in lenses. They're freaking beautiful. Nikon is arguably just as good as Canon, as is Sony. Check Overstock.com for deals, and price compare on MySimon.com to make sure you're getting the best price.
I've been shopping for a SLR with interchangable lenses if anyone has advice there.
*edit* One last thought, never use the digital zoom option in whatever camera you end up with. The program in the camera is never as good as Photoshop or some similar software at home. Really you probably want to avoid all filters in the field as they're all easier and higher quality in post at home.

Thanks Rover and Kel, will be shopping for the Canon or Nikon when I start looking, and will pass on the HP.

Just got a Nikon D300...WOW...is all I can say.
Color reproduction and the clarity of the Nikon glass is just great. I'm an old Nikon shooter although my first Digital SLR was a Canon EOS10D.
I like that Nikon glass...especially the VR lenses...just outstanding.

That's sweet, do you have any problems with the LCD getting scratched or anything? I like to wear my camera around my neck on a strap and it inevitably bounces against zippers and buttons and stuff and I'd hate to drop a grand on something and scratch it. It seems they're all being built like that now though.

If you are looking for a point and shoot I highly recommend the Sony Cybershot. Takes amazing shots and is very durable. Mine has been inside structure fires, been dropped a bunch and still keeps on ticking,
For an SLR i recommend the Rebel Xti. Is easy to use and takes amazing pics.
