I just started me up a batch of strawberry brandy from a recipe that my buddy uses. It is pretty good stuff but I wanted to try some different recipes. I looked on the net and really couldnt find anything that sounded good. Just wondering if anybody here makes homemade brandy and if so what is your recipe.

Some of us don't live in trailers.

Just because a person makes homemade wine/brandy doesnt mean they live in a trailer or they are a backwoods mountain man. You can make aound 20 bottles of brandy for right around 12 dollars. It is cheap, easy to make, and tastes a hell of a lot better than the stuff you buy in stores.

Buy some imported, aged brandy. A fair-sized bottle of good brandy will run you about 10 to 15 bucks, and will probably (no personal experience here) taste a lot better than anything homemade. Unless you drink a lot, this is the way to go.

Uncle used to make schnapps, was way better than store bought.

Just because it doesn't come from the store doesn't make it worse. In fact, the more you get out into the world the more you'll realize the opposite is true.

I'll return you now to your usual 1337 AZN discussion about girls or huffing paint or whatever it is this week.

I'll return you now to your usual 1337 AZN discussion about girls or huffing paint or whatever it is this week.

Listen up shithead because I'll tell you once and I won't tell you again. Hopefully for your sake you will be able to once again find this post and read it, and re-read it, and re-read it once more so that some of what I say will comprehend.

1) You beat a bad joke that you started to death
-It wasn't funny to begin with.
-It has almost no truth to it seeing as how I talked about it twice or so?
-Laughing at yourself is like jacking off, sure it's cool at times, but someday you'll want to find that special someone to share with you.

2) All your posts are (I can't think a gay enough word so I will create the word Biggirific) Biggirific.
-You are so Biggirific that it tickles me how you can point and laugh at others.
-You take which side is ever appropriate to what might make you look cooler, so if everyone was laughing at Cambodia children putting fake vaginas into shipping crates, I'm sure you would laugh so silly little head off.

3) Grab a spoon.

4) Eat my ass.

5) Have a nice fucking day.

Who's joking?

Joking implies I'm making statements for the purpose of amusement.

Your presence consists of spamming a forum on real life issues with stupid one line attempts at 12 year old humor that have nothing to do with the topics at hand other than lame attempts to make jokes at the expense of legitimate posters.

With that in mind I can understand your hostility towards my own posts, since I genuinely address the topics at hand and write an informed response.

Brandy, blech! Now Cognac....

I had a chance to taste Maison Surrenne - it was like drinking flowers waving in a blue sky.

I drink bailey's irish creme like water.

I'd save a fortune if I learned to make that shit.

Kaluah and milk just isn't the same. :(

Shew's posts have reached a useless-factor of epic porportions.

Anyway... ...Brandy.

I'm a bit of a psycho with hobbies. I pick up a new one every year or so. I made my first batches of beer at home when I was 24 or so. I started with your basic big plastic jug and an airlock, followed with a month in a dark corner with yeast and sugar for carbonation. About a year or two ago I took to leap to forced carbonation - getting myself a 5 gal "corney" keg, CO2 canister and regulator. The only thing holding me back from making more beer (and sodas - root beer, etc.) has been a refrigerator especially for the keg. Turned out the 5gal corney was too unweildy, so I'm in the market for a 3gal.

I think if I went and set myself up to do liquor and liqueurs, I get forced to either clean up the kegging system, or abandon the MAME project (again!).

Ruthey, cognac IS brandy - it's just illegal to label any brandy made outside France as such. Not quite sure as to the specifics beyond that.

Dart - I have a friend who makes homemade kaluah. It is very good, much better than store bought. If you like I can get you the recipe.

Palimax - I have found that Brandy seems to be a little easier to make than brew. All you need is an 8 gallon or larger crock and a wooden spoon and you are good to go. If you would like the recipe I use, let me know and I will hook you up with it. This recipe will yield about 18% or 36 proof. Enough to warm your ears with. You can always add a little everclear or Vodka to bolster that if you like but then you will start to taste the alcohol too much for my taste.

Actually there was an agreement signed concerning this a long time ago and the US never s agreed to sign it. Same thing goes with Champagne, it is supposed to be sparkling wine if not grown in the Champagne region of France. US didnt care about that sort of stuff so anything made in the US is named as they wish. There are a few US made Champagnes that use the naming policy Domaine Chandon is one considering they are an offshoot of Moet & Chandon.

But as you say most Cognac Makers do follow the naming convention.

You can also make a very good home Lemoncello.

Take 4 cups of good quality vodka (Grey Goose is what I use).

Take about 2 pounds of lemons and using a peeler, cut away the yellow of the rind (try to get as little of the white pith as possible).

Combine the two and let it sit for a week or so at room temperature (the vodka will turn bright yellow and the rind will be bleached).

Strain in a colander and mix with a simple syrup made from 3 cups water and 3 cups sugar.

Bottle and let it sit in your fridge for 1 month. Drink straight and enjoy!

You can adjust the amount of simple syrup depending on how sweet you like it (3 cups is fairly sweet).
