Heya everyone!
I stumbeled over this forum just the other week, and noticed it was still alive. Ah, nostalgia & sweet memories. :)
So, I reactivated my EQ account for a month. Doubt there will be a second month or play very much during this one month, but I'll still have some nostalgia trips.
Anyone playing these days?
I'd like to join a group or guild or whatever. ;)
So, level 60 highelf magician with retronoob gear (luclin) and retronoob skills (forgot most of the old content and never tried the new) sincerely unseriously LFG.

Cool, so the Sleepr is killable now? What expansion was that? Dragons of Norrath?

It is the Secrets of Faydwer or however it is spelled. They actaually killed the sleeper a few years ago on a ZEK server they zerged it with a few guilds until it died. They then had to repeat the performance cause a gm /killed right at the end. The SoF expansion has Kerafym the awakened at the end it is a cool fight :)

And we were _supposed_ to beat Kerafyrm last night on the Tribunal (or the night before)--got him to 18% :(
I'll try to be on tonight as well.

Current expansion is Seeds of Distruction actually. Secrets of Faydwer was last years fun, and it really was a solid expansion.
EQ has put out some quality expansion recently with tons of depth and very interesting raids imho.

Hey Vel, I was the Rogue doing the corpse recovery in Hate for ya'all, lol! I had a blast getting everyone outfitted in their Hate gear, even the ones that left us soon after.
Ed, EQ has gotten too complex and grind-intense for me and many others to continue with, but if I was not working and could devote at least six hours a day it would be a blast to be laying waste to the new expansions. It seems everything has become a series of necessary accomplishments to be able to attain the next step in line, and that means grinding levels and AA's and obtaining the required equipment to keep from being a drag on the raid.
I love the game, but have not got the time or patience or commitment anymore. But you will have some fun I am sure, not having been around the past few years.

The developers are well aware of this problem, and have been making some semi-controversial changes to make it easier to get back into the game. Their stated goal is to keep the length of time it takes to go from level 1 to the current endgame roughly constant.
These changes include:
* "Defiant" armor was added as a baseline level of gear for everyone. There are several sets of this armor based on level ranges, and virtually any level-appropriate NPC will frequently drop Defiant armor. For the level 60-70 range, this is approximately Plane of Time level gear.
* If you have fewer than 1000 AAs, you get an exp bonus toward AAs. The amount starts at something like 2.5x exp at 0 AAs and gradually decreases to 1x at 1000 AAs.
* Old zones in all expansions except for the last 4 (The Serpent's Spine, The Buried Sea, Secrets of Faydwer, Seeds of Destruction) are completely unlocked, aside from a couple isolated cases where one person might need to be flagged to request an instance. The Serpent's Spine is due to be fully unlocked anytime now.
* Most spells up to 10 levels below the level cap (so, level 75 now) can be created through spell research, and are tradeable. Nearly all modern (level 71+) spells have multiple "ranks" now, such that you can buy a basic rank 1 version of a spell from a vendor, and then upgrade it to a slightly more powerful version later.
That said, they haven't taken the grind out of the game entirely, they've just shifted it much closer to the endgame. :)

PSHAH!!! as if i could forget the countless hours we spent side by side. you seem to forget I was there the day we got you your leafblower. second epic in the guild i believe(we shall not mention the Endra thing) back when we had to have Brownmens guild help us with Faydedar.
HAHA i remember rolling outta bet at 6:40 on sunday mornings and getting the coffee on ASAP to make our sunday raids. that always sucked very much, but i still made the raids every sunday.
P.S. I'm still in love with Travesty :(

That's funny, I thought spell research was one of their more functional ideas that gotten totally forgotten about to promote ever more farming.

I noticed Juts posted a note that Travesty and Bo have finally made their union legal, with the whole marriage thing. :D
And there were a couple leafblowers before mine, but with Chanur joining the Coast Guard the Rogue I made was our only one for some time, which kind of forced me to move up the levels and such at a faster clip than I was used to, heh. Corpse dragging in Hate, lock-picking on the way to the Royals, lots of fun times and great memories.
And we did make a change in Sunday raid starting times, since we had so many west coast folks. Hell, I had trouble just being there at 10Am cst, some Sundays, hehehe.
