So I just got a laptop for my school, however, aim downloading is blocked. I was wondering if anyone could send me the file via private message, if that's even possible. If not, then boo for me :(

Why not use gaim, or another client? Chances are if the download is blocked, then the service will be blocked as well. And unless you know a lot about tcp tunneling if that is true, I'd suggest making friends that don't require typing to "talk to".

I don't go with definite assumptions. Depending on the level of education this school is... heh. I've seen enough stupid shit in my lifetime to never want to make an assumption on how secure something is, ever.

Using Trillian isn't going to do any good since the chance of the AIM service itself not being blocked is down near zero.

You can sometimes use the http proxy functionality of Trillian to get through.

You do realise that the aim servers listen on any port, and unless they have some sort content management proxy, you can aim.

I think auth is just one port however.

I'm really surprised an educational institute would block AIM traffic. The IT departments of most colleges and universities actually install the top 3 or 4 messenging systems when they prepare system for public use (since they know that if they don't install it, the students wll).
