The West is obviously loosing its global war - or the war is not winable. Eitherway, compromise is never a bad thing if done correctly, and when you've got nothing to gain but lots to achieve, it's a downright positive thing.
ie Western pressure will never solve the problem, diplomatically or economically, and we're never gonna go into a place like the Lebanon again, so brokering peace deals based on compromise and concession - if it creates lasting results, or even an end to decades of violence and strife - should very much be welcomed.
