He probably wasnt drinking...could have had some good weed!

I wonder how this will effect the WMD issue in Iraq, the price of gas and the Katrina rebuilding?

One can only hope the Kennedys will auto-darwinate sooner rather than later so the rapid right will have one less clown to distract them from the mutiny in their own party.

He has, allegedly, been taking ambien (http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2006-04-23-insomnia-drugs_x.htm) and phenergan (http://www.drugs.com/phenergan.html), neither of which are a good idea when driving (and together, probably much worse). Ambien has even been implicated (http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/04/news/companies/indiplon/) in causing sex, eating and driving while asleep. Ambien is apparently quite popular (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&contentId=A19844-2003Nov9&notFound=true) even on Capitol Hill.
"So do you use sleeping tablets to organize yourself?" Al-Rashed asked.

"Yes. Well, I wouldn't call them that," [Colin] Powell said. "They're a wonderful medication -- not medication. How would you call it? They're called Ambien, which is very good. You don't use Ambien? Everybody here uses Ambien."
Unfortunately, the police dropped the ball on the case, forgoing a breathalyzer at the scene. Kennedy says he's cooperating -- perhaps toxicology will reveal more details. It'd be suitably ironic if he was driving in his sleep due to meds (clearly he was in a dazed state).

Fortunately, no one was hurt. In that state you'd be capable of anything, perhaps even shooting someone in the face.

Or taking a midnite dip in the Chappaquiddick...

I read the hostess (identity not revealed) is claiming he was drinking at the Hawk & Dove before the crash. If true, then the mix of booze and over the counter drugs would explain a lot.

You don't usually stagger (per the police report) from a prescribed dose of Ambien alone.
