Suggestions for colors please. We will have two layouts: one work-safe one, and one main layout.

I'm pleased witht the current "clean and tidy" look.

I'm pleased witht the current "clean and tidy" look.

I smell OCD :)

Lighter colors work well, but the current looks very clinical.

At the very least let's change the 'vBulletin' logo to something else. Here's a good example of a customized vBulletin board, you should try contacting a mod there for more info on how to do it:

http://www.misticriver.net/boards

It's the DAP board I visit.

It's not very technically hard to customize VBulletin (if maybe a bit complex). Having graphics and a color scheme to use is a lot more of the problem.

For example, I set up the colors for this in about an hour total: http://wow.guildrip.com/board/index.php

That looks really good, Sanchek, what would it take for this one?

Sanchek

I just need some direction and color scheme. The RiP:WoW stuff was easier because we'd already hashed out a color scheme for the original RiP site years ago, that I mostly continuted using.

I'm not the best person to do anything graphical or creative though. I'm sure there's lots of people reading here that could do a much better job than me at coming up with that kind of thing.

Do the RiP colors...they are easy on the eyes. :)

Wow ******** that looks great! Maybe if someone submits an entry for the AyRo logo you can do something with that. Get busy graphic artists!

Does red on black somehow become "cool?" Seriously, stay with a nice soothing scheme. This looks professional, and those of us who read it at work apprecaite it.

Starrla

Seriously, I like something easy on the eyes.
I get a headache after reading with so much "bright".
RiP colors please, thanks :)

The current colors are good enough... or something else along these same color lines. We DO need a different logo, and maybe some other replacements for some of the other default graphics.

The RiP colors seem to be anything but easy on the eyes to me. I really like the current scheme as well.

Rybit

Then it's settled. We'll stick with this layout with a new logo. Anyone second the motion? :) All in favor, say aye?

Grumblin
04-04-2005, 05:45 AM
aye.

Gemini

aye?

Make a poll! This color scheme sucks, I agree with Starrla.

:devil

Sanchek

I wasn't ever suggesting we use the RiP theme for this. I was just giving an example of a fully customized VBulletin style (most you see don't alter the graphics, and look like ass with different colors).

Dont break what isnt fixed...........wait? huh?

Keep as is.

I agree make a poll pleeb. I don't know why, these colors remind me of a MAC scheme.

Sanchek
04-04-2005, 12:15 PM
We need an all brown theme for the EQ2 section!

fildien
04-04-2005, 12:23 PM
ahhh that would be a good idea....since all the crap keeps spewing from the WoW forum into EQ2 :D

Grumblin

Where's the not dark but not these colours option!

samanusuke
04-05-2005, 01:33 AM
God, shut up Grumb. I like the colors personally, everyone tries to do the dark background gaming environment bullshit. I respect the use of light colors.

More votes. 30 is hardly enough to make a decision.

Palimax Sceleris
04-06-2005, 01:39 AM
I dunno. I make decisions by myself all the time. Try it, you'll like it.

(Oh, and leave the goddamned color scheme alone. Get some nice header graphics, touch up the layout if you must, but if there's a black background with red and blue text and dripping dagger icons here next week, I swear to god I'll beat your address out of your hosting company and visit you with a bad attitude and a rusty spoon.)

Ahem! If you'll excuse me, Media Center has record enough of The Shield that I can watch it sans-commercial.

Starrla

More votes for dark scheme...go go yes to them! :)
*hands Palimax a rusty spoon and winks*

Rybit..ignore him he is just a gnome! :p

Anything but dark.... You people are so Gothic :/... How about a bright Orange?

I'm not too familiar with vBulletin but I know in stuff like phpbb2 you can have multiple profiles set up. Is that not an option here?

Moglor

Teal!

I made a kick ass style for phpbb that we can use :) The guild is defunct and I put all that hard work into it for nothing :(

Oops, had to capitalize the Bs in phpBB2 ... my bad

Back when I played EQ a lot (years ago), I would usually play till 4-5am. My girlfriend would go to sleep around midnight and my computers were in the same room that we slept back then, so I couldn't keep the light on.

Pulling up a white background site to check the boards or points while playing in the dark would always hurt my eyes. So, I gave the RiP site a dark background. No other reason. Not to be "cool" or goth or whatever some may do it for. I just wanted to keep my eyeballs intact.

We can offer multiple styles, but some of the image elements have to be universal between styles. So, we'll obviously keep this style available, but if a dark theme is more popular then the light one might have some images that are anti-aliased incorrectly and look weird.

Use PNGs for the images, and the background color of the forums shouldn't make a difference...

Sanchek
04-06-2005, 12:47 PM
IE still doesn't handle 24-bit png transparency does it? Last I tried it, IE displayed a solid gray matte in the entire transparency area (even where it was 0 alpha).

If only there were a way for you to test your theory!

http://forums.ayonae.ro/test.png

Does that render correctly for IE users? When I try to view it in IE, it actually tries to load it in a Quicktime embed. Yikes. Maybe I'm not up to date on my IE stuff though.

Looks right in FireFox.

Buadyen

Yeah it probably does... but people that use a Real Web Browser (http://www.mozilla.org/) wouldn't be affected by it.

There appears to be lots of information on how to work around Microsoft's deficiencies:

Firefox on the left, Internet Explorer overlaid on the right:

Sanchek
04-06-2005, 01:59 PM
Yeah, that's no good.

I've seen those workarounds, but they're pretty unrealistic to use on lots of images and cause issues with non-IE browsers. One style will just have to deal with some aliasing issues.

Moglor

Grumblin

Isn't working for me on IE6, it's completely leaving out the "U" and the "N" in the middle of tribunal, weird bug.

:D
