Yankees over Mets in 6 in the WS.

Imo the Mets will win the World Series for only one reason. The Mets will have a fairly easy road through the talent depleted National League in the Playoffs, i.e. they could potentially only play eight games to reach the Series. The American League has the 3-4 best teams in baseball which equates to more competition to get to the series. The American League teams could play up to 14 if their series go 7 in each round before the Series, so I think they'll be much more tired than the Mets.

Keep in mind, I hate New York teams, so this is by no means a personal bias.

These next couple of seasons will be interesting as we witness the bastardization of the National League via the Mets - much like what has already happened with their New York counterpart.

Here's to the team who wins the WS without dumping insane amounts of money into their organization.

AL East
Red sox

AL Central
Detroit

AL West
Angels

AL Wildcard
ChiSox

*Yankees miss the playoffs. Torre gets the axe.
*Chisox make a late run but finish 1 back of Detroit.

NL East
Mets

NL Central
Cards

NL West(who cares?)
Padres

NL Wildcard
Houston

*Death, taxes, and the Braves win the division no longer the sure things in life.
*Clemons gives the 'stros the little extra they need to catch the wildcard.

World Series
Red Sox beat Mets in 6.

That being said...

What a difference a new manager can make. I've been waiting for Leyland's Tigers to prove to be a flash in the pan, but they are for real.

I was at the Braves game vs the Reds on the 8th. They made the Reds look bush. They'll have a hot second half but it won't be enough to get their 15th division title in a row.

The Marlins were the exception - not the norm. Football is exciting. You don't see these prolonged dynasties like you do in baseball. (Don't give me shit about the Pats. Three teams have done that.) And like every other modern sport, they utilize a salary cap.

That is fucking ridiculous. Please, do tell why there should not be a salary cap? Are we rewarding hardwork and talent or the almighty dollar? The Yankees are weak. Let's see how good they are when they can't just buy up every player under the sun.

Money obviously isn't always the bottom line - but if you think that it's remotely fair to have such large discrepencies in salary you are obviously a die-hard Yankees fan cause they are the only ones who try to legitimize that crap.

Cap the MLB and bring this sport into the 21st century.

I've been waiting as well - Gotta remember though we just left the All Star break. They still have time to crash and burn. :devil

Also, why has the NL been getting so thoroughly destroyed over the past two decades by the AL?

It is beyond mere coincidence. The AL teams put more money into their organizations to compete with teams like the Yankees. The NL teams do not have to do that (Well, with the advent of the modern day Mets we will see this change). That's why the NL gets utterly embarassed during inter-league. The AL is on another level, one that the NL only needs to match during October - and usually fails to do so anyway.

you figures i think are off, or other sites have other estimates, cause what i saw was if you added #2 + #3 < #1 payroll, atleast at the beginning of the season.

Also i have editted my NL East prediction. Braves miss by 3 games, and .5 out of wild card spot. And to add, bobby cox retires.

To add to my Boston prediction. They finally have the one thing they have always needed, and his name is Johnathan Papelbon

W-L: 2-1
ERA: .054
K: 50
BB: 9
SV: 29
IP: 50

SICK!

If the salary cap is not implemented in MLB, I would not be at all surprised to see a more than gradual dropping off of TV revenues as people grow more and more bored with the game. leading to an eventual abandoning by the major networks of baseball, other than October.

We no longer have a Cal Ripken streak to watch, or a McGwire-Sosa-Bonds HR chase to keep us excited; baseball is going to be hurting in a big way.

i disagree about TV dropping off, without the salary cap eventually only the same 8 teams will play, and the smaller market teams, royals, brewers, devil rays and the such will fade away into nothingness

With a salary cap, the better plays will be spread out and create a more competative league. Look at the NL right now its a joke the AL is by far the better league.
