We have a baby sitter coming some night next week, so the wife and I can go. Obviously don't want to take a 3.5 year old to see this movie.

I can't wait to see it.

Yeah, even those with older kids might want to make this a Mom's and Dad's night out only. This movie will take you on a ride like no other. Couldn't sleep last night LOL!

I read a review that said if at all possible, see it in IMAX, since several of the action sequences are actually filmed with an IMAX camera, making them spectacular on the IMAX screen.

I'm going to be seeing it in IMAX ; p

We're waiting for the crowds to die down a bit. I'd love to see it in IMAX, only trouble is we have one screen within 30miles and it's usually packed to the hilt! I have seen several movies there though, maybe I can convince her to let me drag her to Harrisburg to see it. But, I'm oncall this week and nothing ruins a good movie like being paged /wrists.

Saw it last night.

If you like movies and really really appreciate good acting - you will NOT be disappointed with Heath Ledgers performance as the joker. If they keep the character going in any future Batman movies, i feel terribly sorry for the person that tries to fill those shoes. I swear to god, it was one of the best acting jobs I have ever seen, and Im a major movie lover and critic.

The overall movie was decent - it was a bit long, and didn't live up to my expectations - but I do that a lot. I set that bar to an almost unobtainable level when I see a movie coming that I think I am going to truly love. However it was still entertaining - but I felt myself more captivated watching Heath as the Joker than anything. I do believe it was the best Batman movie to date.

I give the movie an 8 out of 10..... however I give Heath Ledger a 20 out of 10, and yes I'm dead serious. Even in scenes where his makeup was almost completely smeared off, you still couldn't tell it was him. He never broke character once. This was on par with Will Smiths performances in Ali and I Am Legend, and also Jaime Foxx in Ray but to me this was far better just because he was playing a complete maniac whereas my previous examples of Smith and Foxx were based on "normal" human beings with relatively normal emotions and behaviors. He truly captured a psychopath with this performance. This was seriously outside the box...

How sad for him that his life ended so suddenly. I had heard buzzes of him winning an oscar for the performance before the movie was even released.

Imm has it dead on (no pun intended). Ledger's Joker will probably go down as one of the greatest performances of all time. Everyone else in the movie, save Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman pale in compairson.
Incidentally, I didn't know Two-Face was in this one as well. What a great twist to make the Joker responsible for his downward spiral into madness....

This movie was incredible. Ledger completely stole the show - I barely even noticed Bale (Teminator 4!), and he is one of my favorite actors.

I'm not sure that Michael Caine and Freeman are really worthy of much praise for their roles, however. Caine doesn't really do shit but make a couple of jokes and say things in his neat British accent. Freeman has even fewer lines, and his OMG NO PATRIOT ACT SURVEILLANCE!!! part was kind of stupid. Normally brilliant actors, but each were horribly underutilized for this movie.

Absolutely loved it, and echoing what others said, Ledger was center stage, spot on and incredible. He put on an AMAZING performance, trumped Nicholson's performance in the original by a long long way. He really brought the 'psychopath' side of the Joker that Nicholson didn't really quite get into the spotlight.

If you haven't seen it yet, see it now.

just saw it. I can't remember the last time a thatre was packed on Monday night. I forgot that ledger was playing the joker, in all honesty it seemed less like acting and more like the real joker.

Did anyone else see the watchmen preview? I just finished reading that about a month ago. I had no idea a movie was inthe works.

I was gipped on that trailer down here in Jawja. I knew there was a movie in the works, but have only seen a few production stills of Night Owl, Silk Spectre, and Rorschach...

Apparently, there is another dark side to Mr. Bale than the Dark Knight, as evidenced by his time in police custody following assaulting his mother and sister during a family altercation (today or yesterday, news not clear).

For what it's worth, Bale apparently didn't touch his mother. Just yelled at her, in response to her yelling at him.

Yes, I hate myself for having wasted brain cells on that knowledge. My RSS reader is out to get me.

Is Bruce Wayne Brady going to have to choke a bitch?

Got around to seeing the movie, it was about an hour too long, though the hospital part was very giggly.

Loved it. Obviously Ledger's Joker was chillingly breathtaking as a performance.
BUT..

Too long. There was at least 45mins of footage that no one would have missed. The mob rubbish, for instance. They could have made the whole China thing more fun, but then it went nowhere and was forgotten about.
I hated Eckhart. I've never liked him, he's never done anything good, and he was far too wooden as Dent - and never had me convinced as Two-Face.
Gyllenhaal. Like Eckhart, I've never liked her as an actress, and for this part she was neither half as beautiful as Rachael needs to be, or half as emotional. Very wooden performance.
There was not enough Batman/Joker scenes. Indeed out of the whole movie they met like 3 times.

The movie needed a more centralised, focused storyline. It was a bit messy at times and, obviously, long winded. However, it worked. Ledger was perhaps the best bad-guy on screen since Daniel Day Lewis' Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York. Bayle was, as always, great, and despite some comments on this thread, I thought both Caine and Freeman were fantastic in their supporting roles.

8/10 - loved it. Though if it were not for Ledger's Joker it could have been in danger of being mediocre.

I went into this movie expecting people to have become bandwagon Heath ledger fans and over rate his performance because he's dead ( I call this the John Denver Effect

Quite frankly I was blown away. He wasn't playing The Joker. He WAS the Joker. I wish they would have gone to an R rating and really let him cut loose.

Whoever casted Maggie Gyllenhall should be taken out back and shot immediately. She was horrible.

Other than that it was really good and I enjoyed it throughout.

On a side note, my mother mentioned today the irony of having a Gyllenhall in this movie, considering the last role requiring such immersion also involved a Gyllenahall.

Not really sure what relevance that is supposed to have except to try to be funny when clearly her part in the movie is more connected with other characters. They could have put someone in drag and let clooney be Batman again. Everyone else was so over shadowed.... who they were was completely irrelevant.

Ledger was definitely great, but I think his performance is getting a +bias due to his death.

Gyllenhaal annoyed me in every scene she was part of.

I enjoyed the jab at over-surveillance in the name of public safety.

Finally saw this last night, and I was blown away. Ledger's performance is incredible, both compared to his other movies and to Jack Nicholson's. My wife works with the mentally ill and usually hates crazy characters, she said she completely believed and was creeped out by his performance.

I thought the entire cast was incredible, save one, and Ledger just overshadowed them all. Gyllenhall was abysmal, and I don't think anyone was heartbroken when she died. Holmes would have received a different reaction from the audience. I didn't expect to like Dent, but even Ekhart's performance fit the feeling of the movie perfectly.

The film felt like Nolen was having fun just telling a story. The pacing is different from most movies, but so was Batman Begins. At first I was frustrated by the wandering plot line, but if you sit back and just enjoy the storytelling, the movie comes across more like reading a book. It feels more like a typical cop drama, where the plot is almost solved, and then takes a sudden turn for the worse - not typically done in action movies.

I think what I liked best was that I walked out of the theater feeling like I had seen a mature adult comic movie with believable characters, instead of the usual silly tripe from some of the other comic franchises. No silly costumes, or ridiculous fortress (other than Batman), Two-Face is born and defeated without any real shtick, the civilians on the boats were much more tolerable than the silly people in the Spiderman movies.

My niece saw it in IMAX this weekend and was blown away, and she is not a big fan of the comic book hero movies. She also mentioned that there was only one scene in the movie, where Ledger is brushing his hair out of his face, when you can tell the actor is Heath Ledger.....otherwise, you never saw the actor in the character he was portraying, according to her review.

Saw it today. It was good. Ledger was great/hilarious. Gyllenhall was completely annoying to the point of me smiling and nodding when she died. It was pretty predictable in some areas. I loved the darkness of it.

I will definitely get this on blu-ray when it comes out, and I haven't bought anything other than Planet Earth on blu-ray yet. I will love to watch it again.

I wish it was 15-20 minutes shorter, it did seem to drag in a couple areas. It's a bummer Ledger can't be the Joker in another installment of the movie.

I was completely stoked seeing a preview of terminator 4.

Just watched this today, and am in agreement with most of what has been posted. I agree that Holmes might have been a more sympathetic character, although her acting skills do not surpass M.G.'s by much, and while I do not really care for Ekhart that much he did carry his role.

Ledger gave a definite Oscar worthy performance.

I really do like Oldman in the Gordon role; he is usually either over the top, or too subdued, and this role seems to bring out a nice combination of the two.

The overall impression I got from the film was they were setting the stage for a departure from what we have come to expect so far, and the "dark" side may be what we get for the next couple outings before Batman is accepted back into the graces of the citizens.

With Morgan Freeman's recent accident, he may not be back for another episode; but, I fully anticipate Caine to continue his role which he plays in a nice understated manner.

I ate a full medium size buttered popcorn, so I give it two thumbs up!

I don't think a broken arm is going to keep Morgan Freeman out of the movie.

I had heard there were some broken ribs and the chance of internal bleeding.
Have not watched or read any news the last 24 hours, being on vacation.
If all he got was a broken arm I am among those that are relieved; I enjoy his work, for the most part.

Just saw the movie this afternoon finally and I was very impressed with it. The storyline presented tons of twists and presented some deep moral dilemmas. This was a substance hardly matched by most of what Hollywood produces these days.

Looking forward to the next one!

I saw it in IMAX, and had a chubby for most the movie....

Bale- i still dont like him as an actor. He pulls off the split personna well. People complaioned about the gravel voice he used as batman...in my head i always imagined him using a darker voice as the bat.

Ledger-there could be some death bias, but not sure there really is. Having seen him play Kight's Tale, The Order, The Brothers Grimm, and The PAtriot, i seen a ability to transform into a character that utter shocked me. The consistancy of the subtle manurisms such as fixing his hard, the tongue thing, even the way he held his knife was just effing amazing. When he his in the cop car and his head is hanging out the window and he runs his hand through his hair, the utter look of insanity on his face made my jawdrop....AMAZING is all i can say

Ekhart-screw you guys i like this guy! I may have a pension for cheese movies but i loved the Core and Thank you for Smoking. He sold two face well. I never like Dent from the Batman Cartoon they didnt get him right, but i the movie they insanity was better shown.

Maggie-too lazy to look up her spelling of last name gill'in'hall. Shes not attractive enough to be the long lost love of bruce wayne, she looked like a runned down crack whore in a fancy dress, i agree with my bard friend, when she died a little part of me smiled

Caine-smooth pimp of the universe....seriously perfect role for him

Freeman-I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact they are using this character in the movies, in the books he is really important and the first franchise of batman completely ignored him.

I highly recommend watching the Gothem Knights animated dvd that just came out. It is to the movies what the Animatrix was to the Matrix series. REALLY cool story and concepts.

For the record, as emo as it may sound... it still makes me sad to the point of a couple of tears anytime I see Heath on TV and realize that he is gone, and I/we will never be privileged once again to see him as the Joker.

Every time Dark Knight is on HBO or something and I start watching it, my wife goes "Why do you do this to yourself?"
