Akom of Cazic Thule

Anyone else pick this up? I played the Demo and had fun with it so I got it yesterday when it was released.
The demo got old after a while, but that is because it was missing some major parts of the game, namely Ranks and Maps. It had no character progression and only one map.
I only got to play for a couple hours yesterday due to being busy, but the way everything is set up makes for a very fun game experience. If you played Battlefied 2, supposedly this is very similar. I never did, so I don't know.
Character progression comes by way, primarily, of Ranks. Every time you rank up, you can get a new character upgrade (unlock). There are 4 kits: Recon, Assault, Engineer and Support. All of the kits are appealing in their own way, and their unlocks are compelling.
As in any MMO, leveling goes kindof fast at first. When I got on yesterday, my friend informed me that he had already made 2 ranks and almost had his third. This kindof scared me, because I was looking forward to a good FPS that I would want to keep coming back to to progress my character. I did a little bit more research online today and found that the number of points needed to go up per level steadily increases... so as with other MMO's, levels start easy and get much harder and drawn out.
Other forms of character progression are Medals, Ribons and Badges. These can be looked at as achievement awards, for the most part. Most of them, though, cannot be attained by accident. A lot of them have very specific things that need to be accomplished. I like to look at these as quests, of sorts. For instance, theres a medal (I belive, could be a badge), for knife kills. You get the first rank for getting 10 knife kills in a round (I believe). The second is for 15 in a round and 50 Global (total). And the last is for 20 in a round and 100 total. Now... theres no way to get 20 knife kills "by chance". You have to be actively persuing it.
The great thing is, theres a good amount of variety in what and how you can play, plus if you want you can do something completely different and work on getting a medal.
I like to compare it to Planetside, with lower populations (though, 48 people for Titan and 64 for Conquest make for some massive fights) and more detailed hit boxes. In PS, it didn't matter where you hit someone, a hit was a hit. In Battlefield, as most FPS's these days, where you hit someone matters.
Ok, now the cons:
Load times. For some reason the first time you try to load into a server, it does this graphics tweaking thing (forgot what it was called) which takes 3-5 min (on my computer, which is pretty beefy). After that, load times aren't really that bad.
Spyware. If you haven't heard about it, EA included with this game a spyware program that gathers non-personal information about you in order to display in game ads. A lot of people are up-in-arms about this. Personally, I don't care for the time being. They explicity say that none of the information gathered is of a personal nature and EA provides no personal information to the ad company. I've yet to notice an in-game ad, so if they're there, they're not intrusive (yet). If having ads in the game allows them to continue developing content and patches for the game that players will be able to get for free, I'm all for it. If it becomes obvious that this is nothing more than a money making scheme by EA and serves no benefit for the players, then I'll probably end up disenchanted with the game and probably EA itself.
Now, I'm sure there are plenty of other issues and balance problems that I have yet to experience, but in my time playing as of yet, I haven't found any that would provide a good enough reason for me to not want to play the game.
If you want more information about the game, the best resource I've found, by far, is:
BF2142Fever.com (http://bf2142fever.com)
Although, you probably won't understand what much of it means till you get into it.
The demo is free to download and play and if you want to check it out to give it a try, I highly recommend it. If you've played BF2 and loved it and like the idea of a futuristic version of the game, buy it.
My soldier name is Akom if any of you end up playing.
