Hey all,
I was sat watching tv last night, trying to soak up all the alcohol in my system from New Years Eve, when I thought about all the shit that's happened this year. Wars, Deaths, Births, the whole shebang. One thing struck my mind - this year has been good for music.
Some of you are bound to say "Omg, lame fanboy" or something along those lines. To you I say "Bah".
Yes, "Bah".
I want everyone here to post the best song and best album they've heard this year. Whether it's pop to dance to punk to metal, post it.
It's not about the genres, it's about a piece of music that you have thought was especially good, whether you know the reason for it or not.
For me, the best song of the year crept in right at the close of 2003 from one of the best new bands I've heard in recent memory - Lost Prophets - "Last Train Home". Me and Axlelan used to talk about them endlessly, yeah, we were fanboys, but for once the Welsh actually did something right. Lost Prophets released "Last Train Home" in the middle of December and in their traditional style, it kicks ass.
Best album is a tough choice, so many offerings from the likes of AFI, Coldplay, Metallica (dont flame me! :) ) and Audioslave, but my vote goes to Thrice - "The Artist in the Ambulance". Pure hard rock, 'nuff said.
And now, for a random quote to end this blabbering post, I give you the Canadian kid from The Simpsons:
"I moved here from Canada and they think I'm slow, eh!"

I've actually heard very little new this year that I care for =/ Audioslave is technically new, but from two bands who I already liked. The rest of the stuff I liked this year was from bands that have been around for a while (Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction, Zombie, Manson, Offspring). A few bands have been ok, but I don't remember most of their names (Breaking Benjamin is about the only one with Polyamorous).
Maybe it has to do with me not having the time or cash to spend sifting through a bunch of junk bands on the radio or actually having the time to listen to a bunch of non-commercial new stuff that is pushing the limits, but I'm not seeing much that really thrills me.

I happen to listen to quite a few different types of music and I did find a few this past year that have impressed me. Staineds new cd was a very decent one that I still am listening to alot. Bubba Sparxx's aslo had some good stuff this year even if everyone says he sounds alot like eminem. Country wise Toby Keith is still kicking ass also.

It'll be impossible for me to say just one song or just one album, so I'll just throw out a few songs off my few favorite albums of the year.
Stay or Leave off Dave Matthews' Some Devil album.
Anything off the Strokes' Room on Fire album.
Kamera off Wilco's album whose name escapes me.
Anything off Coldplay's Rush of Blood to the Head album.
Nothing Better of The Postal Service's album whose name escapes me.
Anything off Radiohead's Hail to the Thief album.
Them's the best.

Song: Gravity by A Perfect Circle
Album: Although the new APC cd and Stained’s new cd were both awesome, Audioslave’s cd was the best in my opinion.

This year had more than one good album so I have to make a list:
Jewel - 0304
Dannii Minogue - Neon Nights
Morbid Angel - Heretic
Darkthrone - "Hate Them" is a good runner up. One of the only "True" Norwegian Black Metal Bands left.

I hate to say it, but Coldplay's Rush of Blood to the Head came out in 2002.
Thank God no one said the White Stripes.
I hadn't seen the thread yet ^_^
To me, the white stripes are easily one of the best bands in the past couple years, especially those with mainstream acceptance.(I've liked em since I heard jimmy the exploder), And Elephant was the 2nd best Album of the year. Seven Nation Army was indeed overplayed though, I'll agree with ya there.
Yes, I said 2nd best, the 1st is Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle. It's so good I don't even know how to argue it.
And the biggest story of the year? The Darkness :)

I'm having to change mine since it appears that Lostprophet's new album (Start Something) isnt released until the 2nd of February and therefore isnt a valid 2003 song.
I guess I'll change my vote, but I'm having a hard time deciding between "Bullet Theory" by Funeral For a Friend (call me an emo bitch, I dare ya! ;) ) or "La Ultima Hora" by Breed 77.

I'm torn between four.
1) Circle Takes the Square - "As the Roots Undo"
2) Cursive - "The Ugly Organ"
3) The Blood Brothers - "Burn, Piano Island, Burn"
4) Envy - "A Dead Sinking Story"
If I had to pick one, I'd probably go with the Circle Takes the Square one. They're all excellent though.
