Was giving blood this morning and apparently there is a massive shortage across the country and they have less than a day's supply. Point being unless everyone here and all their friends and family donate soon we're in big trouble.
Also don't get into an accident after tomorrow or you'll die ;(

Alas, I'm not eligible to donate anymore (nor am I eligible for bone marrow registry, due to my autoimmune disorder), but I encourage my students to do so regularly. I recommend it not simply for altruistic reasons, but because, despite the fact that folks like me are ineligible, if you've ever seen where most of our blood plasma comes from, you'd want to do something to raise the average *quality* of the blood supply as well...
Donating blood is completely safe (you can do it every two months) and the life you save may be your own or a family member's.

Was quite the regular donor for well over 10 years till they decided a few years back I was no longer eligible to donate.
Their reason, I lived in Germany in the mid 80's so it's possible that I might have maybe could've possibly eaten of beef tainted by madcow.
Now my O neg sits untapped....blah

Due to liver disease, Hepatitis C, (which was the common denominator that brought Pennyphilcher and I together as friends) I cannot donate blood, organs, etc.
I have been hearing a lot about the shortages, and at the same time there have been serious charges about the Red Cross and it's blood drive apparatus, which may have turned off some potential, or even regular, donors.
