The Annenberg survey found that people who watch The Daily Show are more interested in the presidential campaign, more educated, younger, and more liberal than the average American or than Leno or Letterman viewers. “However, these factors do not explain the difference in levels of campaign knowledge between people who watch The Daily Show and people who do not,” Young pointed out. “In fact, Daily Show viewers have higher campaign knowledge than national news viewers and newspaper readers -- even when education, party identification, following politics, watching cable news, receiving campaign information online, age, and gender are taken into consideration.”

Woowoo, vindication! (well, except for the 'younger' part... ;) )
Seriously, The Daily Show owns :). The coverage of the RNC was great and felt... cleansing after I watched each night of the convention ;).
The section where they described the Bush campaign as 'The triumph of words... over facts' had me in on the floor in tears I was laughing so hard...

Nydia

Ooo talk about spin there. I like the Daily Show, but I think you're taking more from this than it deserves.
"people who watch late night comedy" versus "people who watch the Daily Show" ?
I don't think Bill is going to be threatened from this poll, or maybe I missed it in my glance over the article.

I find the Daily Show incredibly funny...and the only show on TV I actively try to watch. Unfortunately it's on right at my kids bedtime so I'm usually tied up putting them to bed. My favorite interview was with John McCain. John Stewart asked him if it seemed to him that the RNC was uncommonly feverant about attacking John Kerry. McCain answered something to the effect of "it's almost like he(Kerry) killed their dog or something"....damn near died laughing.

Jon Stewart and staff rule:cool:
I really enjoyed both the Clinton and McCain interviews, but even without the political interviews and satire there is still plenty left to enjoy. Nothing is sacred, allowing us to laugh at everything.

Whole Point is to show OREILLY that he is wrong when it comes to only stoners that watch the DAIL SHOW.. which it does Prove.. there is another survey that was conducted by another big time SURVEY company. I'll have to find it but it showed that the AVERAGE watcher of the Daily Show has 4 more years of college then the average watcher of Bill Oreilly.. and that is a fact I will try to find the link.

From what I remember, a writer for the Daily show stated that a lot of their stuff is made up, and anyone who uses their show for political usage shouldnt be allowed to vote, seeing as they are... OMG, a Comedy.

Some of it is...and some of it isn't. It's pretty easy to tell the difference actually. It has some (not alot) real information...mainly in the interviews...but mostly it's just funny as hell.

I read that it was clear that O'Reilly was poking fun at Jon in a comedic way. As someone who is most often taken as being serious when I'm trying to be funny, I'd cut him some slack.
The Daily Show does have a very evident bias towards the left, but nobody is really safe from their barbs. To me, the best interviews they conduct are from people who somehow have no idea that they are being interviewed by a comedy program, and try to be 100% serious or get offended when the interview gets zany.
I also think Jon is far superior to and better than Craig Killborne (sp?) was during his stint as anchor.
It is also worth noting that Stephen Colbert does the voices for Myron Reducto and Phil Ken Sebben on Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law.

I have never once watched the daily show and been even remotely offended, because I know its comedy, thats their job, be funny, and if making fun of Bush is funny (and it is.) they will air it.

Daily show is comedy but they also say what people think on some of the stupid things are said about politics and etc. BTW if you read the article, like you said you can tell that Daily Show and Stewart are biased but he still makes fun of Kerry and his campaign just about the same as he does bush.. I mean come on you gotta KERRY IS BORING!

Heh. My more liberal friends practically worship the show.
I'm kinda miffed that he got 2 Emmy's and Chappelle got none...

I think some of you are forgetting something. Of course the average Daily Show viewer has an above average interest in current affairs. If you didn't, you wouldn't get the jokes.
Jon Stewart has some fairly decent interviews considering it is a comedy show. Both campaigns realize this and that is why you see heavy hitters from both sides doing interviews on his show. It is a good place to get a wide audience and since it is a comedy format, neither side has to really worry about getting "zinged" in a serious way. Last night Bush's campaign director for the Southeast was interviewed ( also head of the Christian Coalition? sorry, was only half paying attention ) and while there was the usual ribbing, he certainly got plenty of softball questions to play with also.

Even Comedy Central knows that the DAILY show is one of TWO shoes on the channel that draws in the numbers (chapelle is the other big hit for comedy Central). Daily SHOW brings in a big numbers in viewers every night.. campaign's would be stupid not to get on the show... well unless your bush which wont answer stewarts invitations to the show ................TEXAN WUSSY!:devil
