I used to be in the SCA. I was a fighter who was there for the booze and banging. My name in the SCA was unimportant, but I was far more widely known at Pensic as...

The Storm Trooper.

I had this shock value white plastic armor, done in a Roman legionaire style. I carried "Q-Tip", which was a pole weapon that just barely passed inspection every time, but was wicked fast, and I was known for being able to strike around trees with it (the sucker would bend nearly 90 degrees on a good swing). My last Pensic a few years ago I had a HUGE scout-kill total in the woods of something like 23.

I was the guy who vaulted the Calentier shield wall, and ran out the other side with the Kermit doll in hand, snatched off a pike while passing through.

I was the guy who woke up naked at the swimming hole. I THINK I had sex that night...I was fairly drunk, so I've no clue what really happened...but either I had sex, or I was raped by a jar of clear honey.

you stopped or Hubbe? I stopped LARP'ing after finding out that the only LARp's I could attend was Enhörningens n00bLARP's, then now when Ive moved down to Skåne I found a group in ROnneby that are having 1-3 LARP's a year with really good quality :)

Used to play orcs (our Orc group in Sthlm was invited to the Lord of the Rings as statists, but that was like 4 years ago and we couldnt afford the planetickets, so we skipped it, damn I regret not selling my mom nowdays :( ) but now we are making a new Dark Elf group :)

I'm REALLY hoping to go to Pensic one of these years. A good friend of mine travelled all the way from Arneilliene (St John's, Newfoundland) to go there.

He mentioned the No Pants Party, the Hell Party (where you had to confess a sin, the worse the sin, the lower the level. He said he got to level 7 and wouldn't say more), then there was the slave auction with the blonds in the chain mail bikini's. Oh! And the Chateau Meow, where all the scantily clad women of the camp go around with cat bells on, looking for a "Toy" to bring back to the camp for all the girls on the camp to play with. Something about being tied to a bed with silk, fed grapes, fanned, and watching 5 women argue over who got to go first on giving him a blow job. :D Oh, and shadow puppets, LOTS and LOTS of shadow puppets!

I am a female fighter (Scottish, 13th century persona) and would like to some day see Pennsic. I have only made it as far as Estrella War.

Heh. It's been a couple decades, but there's been a few deaths due to Pensic...not AT Pensic, but because of it...

One bastard got the nose piece of his DAMN pretty helm slammed into his eye. Not a death per-say, but scary.

One guy wearing a form of banded mail jumped off a cliff into the 'river', not realizing that banded mail compresses as it absorbs impact...it scissored across is beergut and cut him deep enought to sever some intestine evidentaly...word is he died because he tried to get back to camp on his own and made things worse as he went.

One stupid bastich bragged that his armor could withstand a shotgun, because it was made of thick plastic (not ballistic, note). Well, yeah, it could take a shotgun, but he couldn't while wearing it, because shotguns just don't make one big hole, they make lotsa little ones...the lesson there was to wear a neck peice while testing the ballistic capabilities of your armor and suffering a case of the blinding stupids. Darwin award kinda stuff.

A few years ago, someone caught a pike in the soft area between the neck armor and the helmet, which is basically where your tongue is. Then he got stepped on a lot in the field battle.

I know I tried to beat some Up-Chuk (a wanna-be Tu-Chuk) silly with his own quarrel one day when he fired off that damn crossbow at me for no good reason, other than I was walking by, and he felt the wall and his friends would be enough protection. Lesson there: Tu-Chuks finish what they start, and prefer to do it one-on-one.

Never try parachuting while wearing that pretty 17th century French style plate mail armor. Someone tried that back at like Pensic 3, and while he descended fine, he basically couldn't tuck and roll in the armor, so ended up going in feet first, and becoming a lawn dart up to his thighs during the field battle. Broken legs and pelvis anyone?

Don't ever be a KDKA channel 4 news team and try to get aerial footage of what goes on at Pensic, especially the swimming hole. Your chopper will be shot down by irate drunk people with crossbows, and you will land in trees just not quite strong enough to support the weight of your Jet-Bell Ranger.

Don't be that stupid poser who walks out in front of the entire melee line at the field battle and yell while pointing to yourself "I have come here to fuck all you up." 1500 people will suddenly decide you need a lesson.

Don't ever call Mara the 'C'-word.

There's a few more stories, but those are the relevant ones. If you can't get laid at pensic, you're either a Terminal Virgin, or named Maxwell.

I went to a LARP convention once.

I see nerd people to paraphrase the abused sixth sense line.

Sure, a lot of it was pretty cool. The whole atmosphere, the "roleplaying spirit", but seriously... 200 pound warrior-women in chainmail? Seriously baby, you couldn't take out a rodent with an m16.
Also way too many goths in the encampment. Way way WAY too many goths.
Spent most of the day trying to get under a few "maids" skirts. In the end it became very clear they were maidens by name only.

So then came the battle. I dont know how many folks were in it. Wasnt all that large. And so I watched 100 pound nerds with cardboard platemail waltz around as "knights" and every "footman" within striking distance immediately died, until two knights came upon each other and cermoniously hacked and poked until one of them keeled over (I have no idea how they decided who'd win).
It looked... so far from reality that it was comical. Seriously, if you're a roleplayer... fine. Dream yourself away... fine. LARP... fine. But seriously bro... if you're sixteen, skin and bones, and have never lifted a weight in your life, how do you expect to look even remotely non-comical in your homeforged platemail?

Of course, a lot of people looked more... lets call it "professional". Like the maids. Oh yeah, definately the maids. One of them... mm... blonde, cleavagy getup... you know... wonder if I still have her phonenumber somewhere.

So basically what this boils down to is a bunch of nerds attempting to convince everyone they arent nerds. And a bunch of people calling them out as the nerds they are. Yeah, I made the mistake of going to a LARP one time. And as exciting as it is to watch a 100 pound dude use a foam covered sword to battle a 300 pound dude using a foam covered spear, I didnt need to see it more than once. "Be more careful, Poindexter! You almost fractured my headgear!"

he already got a job, no idea what its called in english thou, vut he is doing metalstuff for retailers, earning quite a bunch of cash each week, also doing a lot of armour and weapons cos he only works like 4-5 hours a day, I would guess his monthly income after taxes are around 2600$ atleast...

Hmm no thats misleading... A better analogy would be a LAN party with lots of nerds of all ages, the traits linking them - awkward, clueless, virginal, and of course, huge nerds. And instead of being confined to a computer they threaten the livelyhood of their hornrimmed glasses and pocket protectors by clumsily hitting each other with oversized, and HEAVILY padded 'swords'. Its a sight more embarrassing than funny - think Freddy Got Fingered or Gigli - part of you wants to laugh at them, and then you realize youre there too and you start to really get worried. So you go home and take a shower, and while not completely cleansing, it does give you at least one small advantage over them.
