So I saw this Tuesday with my wife. It had some funny parts, but it was awful overall. They could have made it into a 30 minute hilarious HBO episode, but at 88 minutes, it was about an hour too long for the material they had. There were parts where I was absolutely rolling in my seat, but most of the funny scenes were too spread out amongst scenes where Cohen tries to shock more than garner any laughs.
I LOVED Borat; I've probably watched it at least ten times. The only redeeming factor to having seen Bruno in the theater is that I won't waste any money buying it on Blu-Ray when it's released.
Realistically this movie should have been rated NC-17 at a minimum. Not that I was offended by the movie (my wife was offended about certain scenes when Bruno 'adopts' a child), but there's no way that anyone under 17 should watch the movie with or without a parent.

This was just too crude to be enjoyable - and I'm an avid fan of The League of Gentleman! Too many sexual gimicks, not enough humour.
Miming homosexual intercourse? Not really funny.
Only funny part was 'I swapped him for an iPod'

I saw it as well. Having never seen Borat (nor do I plan to at this point), I wasn't really sure what to expect going into the theater. Some parts of it were really funny, but in general the whole shock vibe was a bit over the top for me. His 'interview' with Harrison Ford was funny as hell though.

I didnt really like Borat, won't be watching this. Just not my kind of humor.

I read a good article about what ridiculous lengths they went to set up these situations, so that even if they were technically candid, they were still basically scripted.
For example, I guess at the end there's some arena fight event where the people are unruly?
Apparently there's usually limit on how much cheap/free alcohol can be distributed at events in that venue. They overprice drinks at 6-7 dollars in most venues specifically to keep it from turning into a free-for-all.
For the movie, they convinced the police/venue to allow them to serve free drinks for the entire event (even though it was only advertised as two free drinks). So, of course, get the crowd that shitfaced, and you'll get an over-the-top result. Shocking!

I dunno mate, could be stone-sober and still extract those reactions if two wrestlers starting undressing eachother on stage and commenced sexual intercourse.
It's interesting, of course, what defines 'reality tv' these days. It's like those people who believe The Hills etc are based on completely unscripted scenarios. Get a brain.

Well that was the problem. Borat seemed great and later (some even months later) you learned that most of it was over scripted and manipulated to get the results. This time around we knew for a year that most of it would be set up in advance to the movie's detriment. I didn't like it much either, at least Ali G In Da House didn't pretend to be real.

I never did see Borat, due to the over-saturation of hype turning me off to it.
I have absolutely no interest at all in seeing this, but may someday check out Borat.
This movie sounds like a great example to use for up and coming film makers: just because you might get lucky and hit paydirt with one movie does not mean that you then have carte blanche to push the boundaries further with the next one.

Well, Bylimet truth be told he didn't push anything much. Hell, the script was almost identical: _________ comes to America as part of team to accomplish something, ________ makes Americans uncomfortable by getting his penis out in public, ____________ hits rock bottom and is miserable, ______________ finds unconventional love in the end and everyone is happy.
Mind you seeing Ron Paul gay bashing probably is why Sanchek hates the film, but I was (am?) a huge Sasha Baron Cohen fan. I've watched everything he's ever done, when I lived in Prague and we got Ali G Show on the BBC it was the only program I actually watched every week. I've got a box set of his HBO series, I've got the other 2 films on DVD, and I was at both theaters a good hour and a half in advance to both Bruno and Borat, and I have a close friend who worked on both films ... and I left fairly disappointed.

Anyone ever see Idiocracy? For such a dumb movie, when things like Bruno or Borat are released I start getting cold chills.
We barely made it through Borat, and that was before finding out how much was scripted. I'll be skipping this one.

I think a part of what bothers me with this guy is that he comes off as being such a total "on impulse" type of actor/film maker, and yet he apparently is having no problem with editing the movie to get a 15 and over rating for release in England. Must be plenty of film in the can to be able to so easily tone it down for the British censors.
