I have Mediacom in my area and it seems that there phone service is 49 bucks a month while vonage is only 25 bucks a month, does anyone have vonage?

Which would you go with? the Company that gives you broadband internet? or the company with the cheaper price?

Here's a question for you: Has your internet ever died? Has your phone service ever died? Which dies more often?

Internet has been pretty steady but the main phone rarely gets used anymore mostly just for long distance phone calls to family members otherwise Cell phone these days are where most of the cumminication happens, but I am asking what you would think would be more reliable a company that gives you there internet or vonage because I like Vonage for its no contracts and really cheap price.

Which is more important?

Price or bandwidth?

I don't have a home phone and have not had one for several years. With a nice cell phone contract with lots of minutes and free long distance, I don't need one. I do like the high speed Internet connection I get with broadband.

Add:

Have you ever heard of TANSTAAFL?

There ain't no such thing as a free lunch....

Pay a lower price and sign no contract and you are probably going to find there are either hidden costs they don't tell you about, or issues with their service. This is just an opinion because I have not used Vonage and do not know anyone who does.

Vonage sucks. I had Vonage over the last year and had frequent problems with disconnects, losing the ability to talk but still hear, and the oppisite, plus just crappy sounding phone. I spent over 10 hours probably trying to remedy this with their support services and still did not resolve this issue.

Others may have different experiences but with my experience I would recommend a big no to Vonage.

As for cable pohone service through your cable company (NOT VONAGE) I had that for approx 3-4 years and never had a single issue or problem with it. Even when we lost electricity in hurricanes and cable was still active it worked fine. But yeah if you lose cable your screwed.

Our overseas programmers use Vonage. It's crap.

awesome thanks for the info, I'll either look into increasing our cell phone to unlimited calling and get rid of a home phone all together or will use my personal cable company thanks a million!

I used vonage for along time before switching to Cell-Phone only.

I absolutely never had an issues with it.

Alot of the recent issues have been because cable/dsl companies like to give VoIP traffic over thier networks *very low* priority.

Not surprisingly , the provider's service works perfectly.

So, even though I've had good experiences, I'd still have to say "No" to vonage, this is a battle they're unlikely to win.
