I recently reformatted my hard drive to fix some problems I was having. Right now I'm in the process of reinstalling all of the software I use and everything else to get my computer back to the way it was.

I use Windows Explorer to move files around as I need to, but it isn't working correctly and it's driving me crazy.

When I open Windows Explorer it opens up My Documents. When I right click on My Computer and select Explore, it opens up My Computer. In either case, the left hand partition that usually shows the file "tree" (don't know the real term for this) is a blank grey area, and contains an X close button.

How can I get the partition window to display the file tree again so that I may move files from the right hand side?

Any help would be appreciated. I really don't want to reformat again and spend so many hours installing software again.

Thanks.

EDIT: Got it fixed. Nevermind. =)

My computer/my documents etc are not a program, they are folders on your hard drive which windows separate to help the user. You are actually opening explorer, the only other ways to navigate your hard-drive with windows are by using browse or by using the command prompt.

Open a folder (my documents or something), click view, then explorer bar, then folders. All the folders should appear down the left hand side of the explorer window.

Going to explorer bar and checking folders wasnt working. Fixed it by repairing my latest IE install. That was screwing up windows explorer.
