I really don't need a reason to invade Canada, but if this is even slightly true(I have yet to read it) I am filling my Ar-15 magazines right damn now.

Washington DC, Jan 11th 2006- The Whitehouse is currently undertaking highly secretive plans for the mission to liberate Canada and it's citizens.

Unamed sources indicate that "Operation Leafblower" has now gone from the planning stages to operational readiness phase, with the possibility of invasion by late March.

So if Canada had a large cell of terrorists, or was somehow bankrolling some, would we invade there as well in our "War on Terrorism."

Can someone explain to me the massive egotistical thinking of U.S. citizens that says, to get what we want from another country we must invade said country?

Does not your own recent history show you that invading countries is not a means to an end but merely a way to propagate your military industry for the benefit and profit of power hungry men? Apparently not.

America has all the guns, and they like to kill people for their own greedy ends. This is what much of the world has come to think of the U.S. If you don't think so you should have your heads checked.

Canada is a sovereign country. The sooner U.S. citizens realize this the sooner we can continue to have a productive relationship. Start pulling triggers and you will automatically loose the trust and cooperation you have with the few countries in the world that give you that today.

I realize most of the comments in this post were made in jest. But if attitudes in the U.S. persist like the "joking" attitudes here in this post the U.S. will soon become an island in a sea of anti U.S. sentiment, not like it isn’t already.

As much fun as I make of the Canadians...

Their military types know what they're doing when it comes to 'down time'
We did a joint exercise with them and a few other nations awhile ago, walked into their MWR (Morale & Welfare) room. Beer, more beer, a TV, and more beer.

Which leads me to my next point, we dont have to worry about them putting up a fight cause they'll be too sauced when we move in...

Wow, perhaps you should indulge in some state sponsored medicinal weed brotha.

We live in Provinces, not States.

This entire thread was in jest and last I heard most Canucks were far more laid back and had a more developed sense of humor....

Then put the jest thread in NUGGETS, not REAL LIFE ISSUES.

I understand that the thread was originally made in jest. But what Americans don't understand is that your "laid" back attitude to invading countries, or merely pulling out a gun every time you don't get your way is having a very devestating effect upon your reputation throughout the entire world.

You are correct, for the most part we are laid back and our sense of humour (please spell it correctly ;)) helps define us as a nation.

Just take sometime to reflect on your attitudes to other countries and "try" to understand when we get offended when you flippitantly talk about invasion. I would expect no less of a response from an American if I were to go off about your total lack of respect for sovereign nations and refer to it as a joke.

To lighten the mood a bit here is a transcript on an ACTUAL radio conversation of a US Naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995. (Radio conversation released by the Chief of Naval Operations 10-10-95)

It illustrates in many ways how some Canadians view the U.S.:

Americans: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.

Canadians: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision.

Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

Canadians: No. I say again you divert YOUR course.

Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES` ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE OR MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

To look at that naval situation differently you could put it in the context that it would be easier , logistically speaking , for one ship to divert course rather than an entire fleet.

Perhaps it wasn't attitude, but common sense mixed with misunderstanding.

Ahhhh btw, I wasn't using the term state as applied to our individual states. But rather state as in ruling body.

As for how the rest of the world views us, errrr by in large most of the world has held their own opinions of us for as long as I can remember. I doubt we'd get much done if we tried to keep folks like you happy with every decision we make.

Ahhhh and you make it sound as if we invade at the drop of a hat. Jesus, live in one situation much?

I claimed no intelligence Taleran, Rangers like me are not afforded that skill. I am merely adding to the conversation. If this thread were posted in the Nuggets forum I would have chuckled, shrugged it off and moved on to the next thread.

But since the thread was posted in the Real Life Issues (This is about real life. Including, but not limited to, politics) forum I choose to add my thoughts on the subject.

Thank you for the information though on Snopes. I didn't realize the story was a myth until you pointed me to the website.

Never the less, I did not promote the story as being either true or false, I merely included it to, one, lighten the mood a bit (the story itself is a joke) and two, to draw comparisons to how some countries around the world may feel towards the U.S.

In essence it was an allegory.

And while you're at it, swallow some happy pills or something. You need to calm the fuck down before you have an anyeurism.

True I used the /rant /rant off symbols to indicate I was agitated, but in no way have I worked myself up enough to validate the use of "happy pills".

Perhaps it is you Elemak that need the prescription of “happy pills”. Indeed, if you wish to add anything relevant to the thread by all means lets here your coherent thoughts.

I doubt we'd get much done if we tried to keep folks like you happy with every decision we make.

Yep, its "folks like me" that keep folks like you on your toes Fandros. Just mark me down in your dirtly little "Liberal Hippy Black Book" you keep. We can sit on opposite sides of the fence and glower at one another.

You capitalized the word ACTUAL when you posted the Aircraft story, yet you say you did not promote it as true or false? Can you not even read what you write? Backpedal much?

In any case it's funny to see the ones who day in and out go at each other jump on fresh meat

I'm not jumping on him because of his obvious dislike of our country in a joke thread(maybe it should have been put in nuggets, but the intent from L2's first post is obvious), I'm jumping on him because he's trying to pull off false data as true and as an attempt to slam the US. If you are going to slam the US, at least slam it with something real, there are plenty of reasons. I don't get into all that many of the political threads anymore because it's just the same mental masturbation over and over, so I tend to stick to the sports threads. Though I am not opposed to pointing out OBVIOUS falacies that aren't just typical political spin from one side to another.

Posting something and stating that it's real (yes using the words "here is a transcript of an ACTUAL radio conversation" is attempting to pass it off as real) when it's not, is a sure fire way to get me to post. There's plenty of truths or half truths or even partial truths that can be argued here without interjecting with a load of made up crap that circulates the internet.

lokase
01-12-2006, 06:59 PM
Actually,

I should have included ACTUAL in the quotes as it was part of my copy/paste from the website I swiped the joke/story from, excuse me for my blatent misuse of the [QUOTE] tag. I will only post the truth from now on Taleran, for example, Fildien is a stinky pasty wizzie!

As Fildien alluded to I am very much the lurker and I follow most all the threads here on Ayonae Ro .

When Shemp started spewing his horrific attempts at communication on the board I choose to take a back seat and watch the drama unfold. Now that he has "departed" I may find a closer seat to the podium.

Fandros, I tried to put in "some" as many times as I could to avert the generalizations, but alas in a political forum generalizations are very hard to avoid. I still stand by much of what I have said, it is up to all of you if you wish to debate the topic or not.

And, I am enjoying seeing folks expend energy on something other than Bush and Iraq, for at least a little while.

Too bad we have not perfected a time machine yet, as it would have been very interesting to see what Bill Clinton and Ms. Trudeau would have gotten going; I think Canada would have taken a licking, in one sense or anther.
