Howdy folks

Normally my posts are about funny things or popular media and games. But I've been involved in a cause recently that I hold close to my heart, that of the treatment of our Canadian Veterans.

Sadly the public believes that we are doing a good job looking after our troops, but sadly this is not the case, even more so since 2006.

We have formed a committee for an upcoming rally on the 6th of November for our troops and I think it's now grown beyond that particular date. It is my hope to become our vehicle to make the Canadian Federal Government realize that what they are doing is wrong.

Here is some information regarding my post:

Why am I posting this here? Because you never know what type of help you can round up until you ask. Folks, I am fortunate enough to have come back in one piece. I have my family and my life for the most part is quite good. A lot of my fellow troops are not in the same boat unfortunately. Some compare their battle with Veterans Affairs worse than the actual bullet that put them in this situation to begin with.

If there is anyone you can contact on our behalf (celebrities, US politicians, etc), ANYONE that would be willing to bring this to the world stage, it would be greatly appreciated. We are taking the stand that this is above any particular political party. This is about our vets, not about who's fault it is. We know the current system doesn't work, the previous system, though better was not perfect either. It is my hope that if enough outcry is made, that the govt will be shamed into fixing this. We know the problem, we NEED solutions.

I'm sorry to have put a damper on your day. I'll try to post something funny soon to make up for my bitter cup of reality in the morning.

I wish you lots of luck and am sad to say it's not all peaches here either. Two of my friends are disabled vets and go thru hell with the VA constantly. One just got her benefits upped finally but it was a year long hassle and lots of congressional intervention. It's ridiculous :(

Heh, you don't even want to get me started on the VA's bullshit. I know why people walk in there with guns and threaten people now. It's not PTSD from WAR, it's PTSD from dealing with their shit.

I'm so far down the social totem pole I can't even recommend names you might contact.

Unfortunately we have very similar problems. I spend a lot of time with the homeless in downtown Phoenix, and mostly people who can't or won't go into a shelter - the shelters are nasty violent holes, I've learned. Most of the men we see are veterans, and the VA does not make it easy to get benefits to them when they live on the streets. Those with disabilities on the streets are basically SOL.

Luckily...it's not too bad here in the UK. As most of the Royal Family hold honorary positions in the varied armed forces, they are usually fantastic at raising awareness for vets of all kinds. We are also quite a militaristic society which means we have a lot of day-to-day contact with the armed forced.

I'm sure we have our black spots, but I think overall things aren't too bad here.

I have a cousin in the Royal British Navy, next time I hear from him I'll get his view on that. Not that I doubt you Halo but I don't think it's a fair assessment unless you're very close to the situation. And frankly I'd love to hear that at least one county is treating thier vets right.
