Not for the carrier charging for all those SMS messages!

Well, you could write your cellular carrier's fees off your income tax! Though you have to declare that 10 to 30 cents off that way ...

So in conclusion...this is a retarded thing to get involved with.

way to fuck up the whole thread SAnfuck with your SMS crusade.
No the service people send text messages with questions like "who was the 40th president". You are logged into their website on your home computer, the question gets funnelled to you, you answer it with the tools they provide and boom you made 10 cents.
My friend who got me into this makes about $150 a month doing this WHILE playing WoW. Its not huge money but every bit helps.
Not saying this is a main source of income, and if you notice i didnt say it was a large amount of money.

I wonder how much AT&T pays him to pimp the SMS based services like this one!?

What is SMS?

Short Message Service, or a "text message". It was created to send short limited size messages cheaper than making a call to a friend. In Europe you only paid for calls / texts you made, not on messages received. This became a bit of an abomination as it was translated to North America as you end up paying for unauthorized incoming messages as well - at much higher prices than around the world. Hence Sanchek's frustrations.

If anyone had the guts to spam me with that crap I'd find them and hurt them. That is all :)...

As long as we all keep paying, they will continue to keep charging. Expecting a company that is busy enriching their top management to listen to consumers is just a daydream on a summer day. Its the same as how we pay more money for slower ISP service in comparison to the rest of the developed world. The only solution is to either forfeit the use of those services entirely which might get the attention of their bottom line, or move to the EU, Korea or Japan. Learning a new culture, language etc is a bit of a hassle just to get cheaper rates tho.
So, San, you are on a fool's crusade unless you actually feel there is some way to fix it.

Atleast with AT&T if you dont open the message you dont have to pay for it. (and assuming your phone isnt 5+ years old) Also, any AT&T Admin message is free.

I pay a flat fee for my phone service which includes free long distance, local as well as free text.
I'll never go with a pay per minute pirate service ever again. All of them are fucking crooks.

Illustrating the further stupidity of this, why would anyone ever send a question to it when you can spend the same overpriced text message to send a question to google, not some stoner playing wow?

more accurate answers and more range of questions can be asked.
NEver seen people so resistant to making a few extra bucks...

You're telling me, that for 10c, you're doing something BESIDES plugging the question into google or wikipedia? And you think that on average the results are going to be BETTER than the most efficient and broad information search in human history?
We're not resistant to making money, we're marveling at a spectacle of public absurdity.

Well, like Rover said ... answering 1 question a minute for an hour would yield anywhere from $6 to $18 pre taxes, probably $4 to $12 post taxes. That is a lot of work for minimum wage. And I'm betting they don't send you 60 questions an hour.
That being said, you're probably one of the youngest visitors to the board and I'd guess kinda money is a bit more appealing to you.

It amazes me how inefficiently people can be fooled into wasting their dwindling time above ground.

I'm 30 i think im about average.
For me basically i play wow pretty much nightly with down time between bosses, waiting for BG's and grinding dailies.
Yes its less than minimum wage, but on the average, i can make $125ish a month which pays for the internet connection, WoW, my Zune, and my xbox membership. In todays economy figured any bit would help people.

Nothing going on in today's economy has affected me or my paycheck one iota.
No way I'm going to spend precious time off answering dolts questions for such a piddling amount.

Well in the future, i will keep in mind only your needs when i post things that could be helpful.
I work in a enviroment that retail sales effect my paycheck and i welcome the extra money even if its on my day off when i am litterally sitting around waiting for other people/events.

Yes, because that's why I posted that you twit.
I , along with everyone else, is/are merely pointing out there are more efficient and effective ways to make a few extra bucks than pretending to be Google.com.

Why not start an ecommerce website? There are plenty of things you can sell online and use drop shippers.

Last i will post about it, clearly bad idea to have done so to start with.

Start up costs are your first months web hosting and don't fall for drop shippers that charge you a subscription fee to sell their stuff. You can do the design yourself, just make the buying process on your site easy for shoppers.
