From my post in EQlives forums section/the library/ lore discussion in reply to fleshing out the old world ... just felt like sharing maybe sparking discussion here on this site.

In general, I would like to see SOE stop making new zones and just revamp and bring new life to the many older zones in existence in game. The revamp zones dont have to be totally dangerous to travel through or explore. Faction would be on aspect of being able to travell through out or not and/or interact with the revamped zone and it's npcs. Also safe travel routes/ paths / roads that may exact a charge or small toll fee to allow players to travel through zone without being attacked by mobs if thier faction not in good favor ( like npc knight in East Karana I believe escorting you safely through zone). Example would be West Karanas ... this zone is big and in the more secluded parts of the zone would be great for new structures, npcs, mobs and sub zones or areas connected to the main zone that have higher level content and action while the main route between adjoining zones would be relatively safe for even lower level players to travel on and through. Basically don't stray to far off the road or trouble may find you =).

As more and more expansions add new zones the EQ world becomes bigger and more spacious leaving alot of zones under populated. This makes it difficult to find groups and level, restricting new and old players alike from wanting to start and play another character if they feel it would be a pain to level them up or more so find people in pick up groups to maybe do a quest or get an item. EQ was supposed to be about community but the community is getting spread out thin. If you just want to level a character and just get into a few high zones by just leveling that character in just a few newbie then mid level zones overlooking the rest of the EQ world then by all means do so but I don't see the fun in that. I would like to be able to explore and do quest in many a zone and see the EQ world but in a game that requires you to group with others to do most things and triumph over npcs and complete quest it's becoming harder and harder with every expansion to do that with. All the high levels basically are in the newest high level zones with most recent expansions and rarely would even bother going to and explore let alone be in most of the zones now unless they are travelling through to get somewhere else or kill some npc to twink thier alt. It sucks having to wait and wait to finally get a group and every passing moment in waiting is a moment I am not playing. Basically I am paying SOE to wait around trivally maybe fiddling around hailing npcs or trying to work on some tradeskill I probably wont really excell in anyway instead of actually having fun playing and exploring the game. Maybe parts of these revamped zones can be instanced while others are safe route / community gathering areas while the rest is fair game and open season on all. I am playing and paying SOE to see most of the game and enjoy it instead of hoping to maybe one day see those areas that only few get to enjoy. I don't want to get into the whole casual vs hard core player thing but honestly its becoming that more of the game is geared to be seen and played by the more uber elite players with so much free time to play for what ever reason that those with limited playing time only can hope to someday see, attain or achieve in game.

I would also like to see more GM events or similar random generated events for every zone on a regular basis and not just every so often or for some special occasion like 5th anniversary or holiday. This would bring back the spontaneity of the game and dare I say ADVENTURE. If there are to be any new zones how about those places noted on map of EQ world of Norrath depicetd only in name or slightly mention in lore in game but access to the areas are none existent or broken because the intent was to have them but forgotten or better yet just deep sixed. There are alot of places, cities and areas in game that are supposed to be undergoing a transformation or rebuilding of some kind for the longest like Cabalis and Firiona Vie. It would be nice to see that these areas get revamped and depict a new version of them. Bigger better and with new content. The quest that exist now in them can still be there or updated and new quest now can be given out after the new version comes into being. This in itself would be a new zone without having to create a new zone so to speak. Alot of this is mention in the feedback section but it seems devs are not paying attention to it imo.

LDoN was a nice change and still have not yet experienced the GoD expansion even though I have it now ... 63 warrior main but been focusing on trying to level my wizard alt now 45. Only 2 characters after at about 3 years of playing ... thats sad. LDoN needs to up the AP given per adventure and lower the cost on the items I think. Geeesh so many adventures to attain ap's for one item then having to do it again for another decent or nice item gets old fast. Again I don't wish to spend most of my time in one area of EQ world while there is such a beautiful rich world filled with lore and possibilities to explore and conquere =) ... Augments and charms should be droppable and player made and or found on mobs outside of LDoN allowing the player to make thier character more unique making some of that mediocre gear more desirable and efficient. This might spark an interest in going back to older zones for so so gear that could be made better by player if customization was easier to do via more available enhancement items like augs and charms.

OK enough for now ... just felt the need to get that off my chest and say my 2cp. I hope I hit home with some of what I said and some will agree and others will differ on my take on it but its just my view on things. Take care and be safe all !!!

You've put into into words very subtle problems that I have noticed nagging me but i couldn't put my finger on it. Good points, props to you for being so perceptive.

The thing about LDoN was that it gave the casual player a means to obtain VT equivolent gear without having to do the timesinks that are required to get that VT quality gear. The thing is, once the casual player realizes just how much time that the 'ubers' put into these things...they don't want the level ground. They don't want to spend 40 1 hour chunks to obtain the same amount of gear that an uber will spend 8 5 hour chunks to get.

And while 'revamping' the old zones is nice...it just won't ever really happen. I'd much rather see them just get rid of half the old world zones, make new connection maps, move/upgrade the gear and replace it. The thing is you can't have your cake and eat it too. You can't have populated zones without risking overcrowding. Back in the good ol' days of pre-kunark...sure almost all the zones were populated. You could get a group in pretty much any zone. The problem? Lists. Nothing quite like running from Lguk to SolB to get on the lists then go solo in OoT for 8 hours until you get a tell informing you you were up for the Lord/AM/Hand group.

GM events have rarely, if ever, been something fun. Usually it's a pre-scripted event with the guides/GM's running it unable to have fun with the event. The closest thing we ever got was during the Lanys (I think) event where one of the people playing a part went LD and the GM started cursing at the dreaded "LD Disease" and it's plauge upon Norrath. They're either 200 people clusterfucks or a 4 person event that nobody hears about.

Either that or it's a slaughterfest on the part of the GM (hate opening anyone?)

Honestly, between the horde of jaded EQ players sick of the crap SoE keeps throwing at us, the min/maxers etc...there's not much hope left for EQ. It's the people you meet that will determine how long you keep playing. My only suggestion for your complaints is to seek out a fairly large casual guild and hope for the best. You may find they're all pretty cool people or you'll end up with a horde of douche bags.

Anyways, G'luck. Oh yeah, might I also suggest you take up as many FPS games as you can? EQ is much more fun if you have something to do while looking for groups or soloing.
